bearing block question

I am thinking of making a carbon fiber unicycle frame. I want to use the main cap style split bearing blocks, but don’t know were to find some. I want them to work with the profile hub. I already looked at mcmaster-carr but saw none. Did those of you that made frames buy them or mill them yourselves? What material is standard for these? Thanks.

here is some action, try one of the bigger muni makers.money talks, see if you can buy some bering caps from say,Hunter or Profile before they get welded to a muni on there way out the door.i wont say who but i was able to get a extra set of them for a price.i got extra’s because hoping on concreate is bad,and if i broke one of my caps i be hating it.you could weld the one’z you get on to your frame legz.

presto!

unicycle.com sells them.

I am pretty psyched about this. My boss and I also have a really cool idea for a different uni project. I can’t say much about it now, but I will say that I don’t think it has ever been done, and it is a pretty big undertaking. You guys rock. Thanks for your help!

love that (coredump)

I was inspired by a bad day with UNIX. :astonished:

Re: bearing block question

Had a machinist turn the bearing seat, machined the outside profile with a
router myself, anodized the bits at home.

I’m going to cast the next ones myself out of fiberglass and resin and make
them a whole lot smaller to save some weight.

Good luck with your project.

Greg, I saw those pictures in the album. That is a real beauty. I am really curious about how you made that. You mentioned the glass fiber veil which made me think you used RTM. I was considering prepreg. Did you use a positive mould, or did you do that in several pieces? Also, how did you handle the seatpost situation? I’d really appreciate any information you could share with me. Thanks.

Re: Re: bearing block question

Will you not have issues with impacts, using fiber and resin? Have you considered carbon fiber yarn instead- I’v seen some nice parts made in-mold…

Thanks! It was relatively easy to put together. Search the archives for “New Unicycle” or “New Unicycle 2” for the details. I ride it daily and so far I’m happy with it.

Won’t know 'til I try  Once the mold is developed the fibre is easily experimented with. This one is going to be a 29’er.
