How big is the chance of falling backwards and landing on your head? That was my problem with the freewheel uni, but at least there I could learn to use the brake, but a BC wheel doesn’t have it. With the UW I only experienced once that I almost lost balance backwards, but quickly gained control, by stopping the pedalling, since you’re much more in control on a UW.
@DrD I had seen that video from Unigeezer thanks. I reckon that like all things unicycle related you just need to experience it yourself. You can watch 100 videos and still have the same question: “how does it feel…”
Not as big a chance as when riding a freewheel. The fact you have your weight on the seat on a freewheel makes it harder to bail if you start going over backwards. On a BC you are already standing, so it’s easy to just eject the BC forwards out of your way and land on your feet.
Today I picked up the new BC Wheel I bought from a shop in France. They let me choose the colour. Will have to wait for the weekend before I can tumble off.
Looks great! Colourful tyres aren‘t a thing over here, unfortunately. Ok, there‘s the red tyre of my 20er, but except for this you don‘t often see them in the wild.
colourful tires aren’t a thing over here either, but apparently this French circus shop did offer different colours. Originally on the site it is blue amd then I could just name any colour I want it in. I prefer green.
So one of these days I will either show a vid of me riding or a vid of me lying in the hospital
Uhm, how does one start with a BC Wheel? I mean when you’ve never done it before.
As soon as my second foot is on the platform, the wheel flies away from me. Should I find a fence or something to see if I can roll along it without braking the wheel or send the wheel rotating to the left or right.
Any tips will be helpful
A fence is for me a good help. I also learned the UW at a fence and it works for me. I don’t ride often my UW but I can Free mount it and go 20 metres without a fence or even help.
a UW is different. There you are in full control of the forward backward balance. I also learned along a 20metre fence, but a BC wheel is slightly different. It gets really twitchy.
I should prolly get a 36" BC wheel. that is easier to freemount and you don’t have to bend so deeply to hold the wheel.
I’ve learned from UW and unicycles that you can learn anything as long as you are persistent. I recently bought a new skate helmet and hopefully tonight I will get the new wristguards and then with knee pads, I may be able to tackle this wheel as well.
So annoying it is dark so early and raining all the time.
Learning BC like a normal unicycle one sided at a fence is impossible, as the wheels name remarks. I learned BC wheel in a sports hall between two vault boxes. Later I used these 2m to propell myself and float to the other side of the small hall.
In your case I would go to a parking lot and use the gap between two cars
In case you decide to use two shopping trolleys, one on each side on a slight down slope, the most important thing is to post the video here.
