I saw this guy on 30 Seconds to Fame. But now that I’m watching the videos, he’s not playing individual piano keys with each strike of the ball. What has to be happening is that each note is pre-recorded in the machine and keyboard is simply a large strike pad. Each strike of a ball produces the next pre-recorded note. Still, quite impressive.
Yup, the piano is rigged. I plays a pre-programmed note for each bounce. He has to get the rhythm right, but the notes will happen no matter where he bounces on the keyboard. Still, it’s impressive and he does make it look like he’s actually playing it like a piano.
One giveaway are the sustains on some of the notes. Some notes are sustained while others are shorter. You can see that he doesn’t have a foot pedal or other way of triggering the sustains. They’re obviously programmed in.
To confirm the suspicions I did a Google search and found this post in rec.juggling that mentions that the keyboard is gimmicked
