It’s stupid. Let him wear the hat.
A lot of chemo patients grow their hair back though…
I still don’t see why we can’t wear hats normally, as long as it isn’t 4 feet tall and has strobe lights sticking out of it.
I speak under correction but I’ve always understood the ban on headgear to go back to the initial movements to eradicate gang-culture from schools.
He should be allowed to wear the hat as he has a medical condition.
Why should a muslim kid be allowed to wear burkha’s and turbins in school?
The kid has a medical condition, the wearing of the hat helps him, and is more essential to him leading a better life, rather than the muslim kid’s burkha or turbin which is for religous purposes and not for the benefit of their health.
One of my classmates when I was at school had alopecia, she was allowed to wear a hat.
I just think that if everyone cant wear a hat he shouldnt be able to either. Hes bald get over it. Maybe someone else has an equally good reason to where a hat but cant. The article even said that he hasnt always been wearing it. So its not even for medical reasons.
I think he should be able to wear it because it helps keep dust out of his eyes. I really doubt that it would help at all with his persicution.
Out of sight, out of mind. Let him wear the hat.
I’m on the fence with uniforms. Pros-no distractions from inappropriate clothes, removal of social status based on clothes. Cons- no freedom of expression.
The whole philosophy of a dress code is about freedom of expression. To take it away from clothes. People can always express themselves. The only thing that changes is how you express yourself through your appearance. Which you can still do outside of school.
But don’t dress codes work? Or is it only a conspiracy by the school uniform industry? I find that hard to believe. I think there’s tons of evidence that uniforms cut down on stupid and pointless activities, stresses and other activities related to the way people look or dress up for school. This supposedly leaves more time and energy for people to apply to the stuff they’re supposed to be in school for. There’s plenty of time in life to play the fashion game outside of school.
No, my schools didn’t have major dress codes. But then again I went to school in the 1970s. Which would be worse for you?
What precisely do you mean “don’t dress codes work?”. Work for what? There are much more important issues that people should be disciplined for, I think the way people dress should be the least of others concern. From my experience, dress codes only make the relationships between staff and students worse, and make it more appealing for students to rebel. Dress codes in most cases are easy to follow, but they never seem to have reason behind them.
Good point. School is a time to express yourself with your mind and other talents. You have plenty of time to express yourself other ways hang in the neighorhood.
That is easier said than done. If this is a public school, then these are rules set in stone by the school district. You have to remember that school districts are bureaucracies and by their very nature they are unable to utilize common sense and understand when exceptions are sensible or not. Basically, if the parents can’t afford a private school and are unable to get the kids into another school district, the only recourse they have is a lawsuit, which is appropriate in this case to force the school to do what they should have done in the first place - make an exception.
Read the article, he also wears it to protect his eyes, which have no lashes as a result of his condition, from dust and the fluorescent lighting. He also started wearing it as a result of kids being A-holes and picking on him for being bald. The school should let him be and take the kids who bully him to the office and dish out some good old fashioned corporal punishment for being scum and picking on a kid for being different.
Personally, dress codes and uniforms are ridiculous. Teaching kids that they must all be square pegs that fit into square holes does nothing more than create mindless cube dwellers that are all just like everyone else. Freedom of expression is an important part of growing up and becoming and individual and schools are going too far in crippling kids and stifling their individuality.
ITs a new york yankess baseball cap- its not smart, its not in the school colour- FWIW girls at that school can only wear hair bands if they are navy blue or black. The school gave him notice in july that it was not acceptable and he chose to still wear it in sept.
I think some compromise is required from the young man concerned. School uniform is suposed to be smart, a Yankess cap ain’t smart.
