Back

Back from New Orleans… what a trip!

We ran out of money by the third day of course, and had to play broke for
the rest of the time. We only came to town with about $600. We’re
thinking next time it should be more like $1500… but it was all gift
money for this trip and we didn’t have any of our own, so we couldn’t do
much about it.

It was HOT! and me from Seattle, where summer clothes means white pants
and short sleeved shirts. I also think I got enough blisters on my feet
from walking around for about 5 people.

But the city (french quarter mostly) was beautiful, there were too many
people of course (never seen so many people in one place in my life), but
we had lots of fun. Only could afford one tour, the walking voodoo
cemetery tour… I wanted to go on the garden district tour but it was
$150!!! The swamp tour would have been $80 for both of us so we couldn’t
make that one either.

We ate at cheap places but found good food, Deja Vu was a great
restaurant, although the second day our waitress was wasted or something
and couldn’t be bothered to do anything right or promptly. :stuck_out_tongue: Star on
Decatur was great, the first place we tried that did a blackened steak the
way it should be. My hubby was pleased as punch when on our way home at
the airport they made a real Philly steak n cheese sandwich instead of
some kind of cheap try, I’ll have to take his word for it. (I didn’t find
it that exciting.)

The seafood there was no better than we get here, I was expecting it to be
something outrageously special, like the shrimp were ten times bigger or
something but… nah. It was comparable.

Lots of interesting street performers, and we were only hustled once and
only because we allowed it for entertainment purposes (some guy bet he
could tell my hubby where he got those shoes… got them right there on
the street) :stuck_out_tongue:

Got lots of pictures, now we just need to get them developed!

Well I’ve got to go, heading back to school today…

Sounds like fun

I am going to Vegas right after my final ball at the end of the danceweek!

Unemployed… hehe what can I do in Vegas for under $500? I don’t gamble,
so it should be OK.

Street performers are great!

It’s even more fun when you have someone with you who can perform much
better also.

My husband got tipped by a street musician  We stopped to listen to this
guy playing a horn of some sort (I think it was a trumpet - can’t remember
rightly) and we got to talking. Then hubby said he wanted to know if there
were any street rappers in NOLA (he hung around with them in DC when he
lived there), and they said they didn’t think so, why didn’t he show them
some of his stuff, so he did the first verse of an original and he got
tipped.

I’ll bet he told ya’ll, “I’ll bet i can tell you where you got them shoes.
On yo feet, on bourbon street, in Nawlins, LA” I get that same guy trying
that on me everytime i go down to the quarter. Glad ya’ll had fun down
here, I told you it was HOT.

Vegas without gambling . . .

We are going to the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) championship in
October. Should be a lot of fun

Trust me, there’s a lot you can do. It’s still easy to get comps left and
right if you know what you’re doing (and it’s also entertaining to watch
people TRY to get comped, kind of like in the movie Swingers).

As in where you got those shoes… as in: where are they right now instead
of where you actually bought them.

Yeah except, we were on Decatur at the time. He said Bourbon street! I
could have pointed that out.

True, but if it’s the same guy that i see all the time, I don’t think he
knows the difference.

Did ya’ll check out the old JAX Beer Brewery?

No… we ran out of money and couldn’t do much after a few days.
