i’ve got some stainless steel preventing me from doing anything like that :astonished:

How did you do that?

Trev

I have scoliosis, they put rods in to straighten me out and then fused 7 vertebra together.

Hmm no contortion for you then, were u born with it?

Someone just moved in next door who has metal in his spine too. I was wondering…
Can you stick a magnet to your back?
Does it set off metal detectors at the airport?
Can you not bend over?
Are you unusually short?
Do you run like Forrest Gump? Oh, wait, he had leg braces, nevermind…

yes, i got it from my mother’s side of the family, well my mom at least, not really sure about the rest of her family, my twin bro and older sister have it too but not as bad as mine was (curved 58 degrees when i had the surgery)

i tried to stick a magnet to it but could not get one powerful enough to do so, there is a considerable amount of muscle around your spine.

i have only taken one round trip since i got them and on the way out i told them beforehand and they just did a pat down, on the way back they just told me to go through the arch and it didnt go off which was a little surprising so i dont know, i have one of those cheep metal detectors at home and it sets that off.

i can bend over, my lower back is still fully functional. i actually have the same amount of maneuverability as before since the curved portion of my back didnt bend much anyway

i am 5’10" now and the surgery actually added 3/4" but i have not grown any since which was expected.

and no i dont run like forest gump but that’s just because i don’t run at all:p which is kinda weird because my twin brother is a sprinter.

Does your twin brother also have scolioliosis?
EDIT oh, I just read the first part of your post. So now I know.

Yup, that would be me too. I have it in my thorasic spine. It is compensated so to most it isn’t obvious. If you’re really observant you can see it when I am bent over riding my road bike, on the bike my feet also point slightly to the right (discovered when I went to clipless) because it must twist my pelvis a bit too. When I lay flat on my back one side of my chest is slightly higher. Mine has not presented any problems so far.

Actually, it just looks like Andrew always has really good posture. :sunglasses:
