Thanks to Gadge for encouraging me out a day or two earlier than might otherwise have been the case. Yesterday, with stitches still in place on my right calf, I did a cautious lap of the main lake at the Water Sports on the Holy Roller. (26", 125mm cranks, Pashley Muni frame.) Then we did some cautious riding on uneven surfaces.
It was a strange feeling - I felt vulnerable without my leg armour, even though I haven’t worn leg armour for nearly all of my 22 year riding career. I had the wound bandaged for a bit of extra support, and the armour wouldn’t fit over it.
Today, after having the stitches removed, I took the Bacon Slicer out. (700c custom wheel with 23mm tyre and 125mm cranks.) Apart from the first and last bits which were over loose ballast, I did around 10K on smooth tarmac, keeping the torque down to avoid reopening the wound. Strong cross wind, and I was concious of being more cautious than usual.
But I’m back.
Great news!
…I know the “more cautious than usual” feeling.
Nice to hear you’re healing well. It’s great to be back! Photo below is from a trials ride on Saturday with a knee that’s finally doing what I want it to. =).

Believe me I know what you mean. My problem is there’s no protection you can wear for a clavicle…
But your photo isn’t! I hate when they do that. Take it easy you two, work your way back slowly!
Oops; it looked OK in my viewer =)
(fixed now)

Now let’s keep it that way.
Thanks. That makes me feel much better.
And cool stuff, Kris.
Wow! And I can wear a full-face helmet to protect my one cracked tooth…
Unfortunately a suit of armor like that still doesn’t protect against a high speed shoulder impact, though it does provide protection to the clavicles from direct impact. Mine got broken by me slamming down on my shoulder. The solution has been making sure shoelaces are absolutely under control before any kind of fast riding! Yeah, something I should have already known…
