So we have a robin’s nest in the blue spruce in our front yard and a cardinal’s nest in the bush just off our front steps. The cardinal does not like anyone near ‘her’ home in the bush and can really get irritated. I tried to tell her that we lived here first but she wouldn’t listen. Well, today, a baby robin escaped the nest and flew to the bush to land. The mama cardinal was absolutely beside herself with the situation. It was not good at all. Finally, after an afternoon of ruckus, I stepped out the door and evidently scared little baby robin who flew (or sort of tumbled) out of the bush and down into the yard. Evidently, since the baby robin showed how it could be done, not soon after, the baby cardinal was out of the nest, then down in the yard. All the while, Chrissy the Cat enjoyed the show with drooling chops from the lower window of our screen door.
Once, Ben decided that it might work to put Baxter’s collar around Chrissy’s waist and take Chrissy outside on the leash. He was surprised when Chrissy easily slipped out of the collar and into the yard. But Ben caught her before she could invite the baby birds to lunch.
At least the blue jays aren’t back in the pine tree this year. That could’ve really gotten messy.
I’m amazed that Ben is such an adept cat herder. That’s a rare talent!
My only tool in herding felines is the open can of tuna. Even then, it doesn’t always work.
I’ve got a full harness for my kitty: one loop for his head, one loop behind his shoulders, and straps between the two. He still manages to wriggle out of it with little effort, even if I tighten it down until his eyes bulge out. I call him “Houdini”.
Taking a cat out for a walk on a lead? Well thats different! My cats walk themselves, we live next to a woods so they run off in there chasing mice and other small animals.
Bruce, I always enjoy reading your stories, but there’s never enough sex, drugs, violence, or rock-and-roll. Nothing got eaten? You didn’t tighten the noose on the cat to prevent a second attempt at escape?
The story focuses on a young cardinal who is brought up in environment of aggressive parents and racial hostility. Not knowing any other way to live the cardinal accepts its fate, until fate one day decides to step in by sending a young robin crashing into the cardinals bush. The mother cardinal reacts by verbally abusing the intruder, and ultimately driving it away, but the incident has changed the young cardinal forever. It now understands how limited its life has been and decides to fly from the nest. The story reaches its dramatic climax when the two young birds are faced with mortal danger. They are alone, lacking the strength and experience to save themselves. Luckily, at the last moment, they’re saved by the very people who where the target of their mothers prejudice.
Thought maybe it would take a turn such as the two young birds find strength in each other and team up to take on a hostile world. But as an integrated team of two differing races, the two young warriors find that the world can be harsh. Rememberig the safety and security of their early life in the nest, they seek to reclaim that sanctuary but find they can never return.
Where will the story go from here…
Don’t look now, Dave, but this could get interesting.
Interestingly, my sister and I were just conversing via email this morning about the movie “Bees.” She said the story line in the movie is akin to this developing baby bird story. I haven’t seen the movie.
Wow, if you put a birds nest in my friends lawn, I guarantee you’ll see it shot down by a slingshot or on fire within 10 minutes.
At our park, birds went INTO a slide and my friend was jumping on top of their home trying to give them seizures. And once he found the hole where the parent birds enter the slide, he waited for the mom bird to come and fly in their and he ran up to the whole and blocked it. Unfortunatley for him, the bird managed to escape. Even though my friend failed in killing them, the birds still died. We smelled them the next time we were there. -.-
Sometime ago, there was a rash of sneaky user impersonators popping up, i.e., Johns Child impersonating John Childs. Your animation is probably from that era.
i will certainly try and find it when i get home. If i locate i will post it in this thread. Yes i remember those times. I used to dream about getting impersonated myself
i think it may even just be a picture of your chin bearing down from above…
