OKOKOK…i may catch heel for making this thread, but it IS in JC and i know that some other people on here are cycling enthusiasts, and like me may not want to go to seemingly very unfriendly biking forums.
no limits…(any style of riding, accomplishments, bikes, etc.)
have fun, lets plz be nice;) , and to you biker haters–plz dont give me hell :o
I actually got into biking because of unicycling…mostly because I never biked much before, and then I got a coker and it was fun to ride long distances but then I decided it was even more fun to ride long distances on a bike.
I don’t have a very good one though, so I’m gonna look in to getting a road bike this spring.
i have alot of frends who ride bmx and i tried it once, i got a $1000 bike for free from a frend, and i tried it for a week or 2 but i didnt like it and thats when i started geting into unicycliing
I ride bmx a fair bit. And i am pretty good, at dirt jumps and skate parks riding. I can 360 and crankflip on dirt. Riding is good but has not given me as much fun as unicycling has.
i ride bmx dirt a bunch…def the most of all biking. i even have a set of trails at my house.
i want to get into mtb freeride cuz the big air is awesome, i do a bit of mtb, but i love jumping.
i like bmx racing but it is a bit far to drive and you cant make what ever you want to ride and you have to wait your turn…thats the worst.
i would do street but i live a way from a town, and the towns dont even have anything to ride around here.
i do rode ride but only got out once this year, and i just like to do other things more, i think an adrenaline rush is better than getting my heartrate up
yea mtb is fun, i used to race downhill but i dont anymore. Got into unicycling by watching a mountain bike vid, and saw kris holm on it. Kris is my idol.
I ride a flat bar road bike.
I also have just ‘borrowed’ my neighbours Hoffman BMX and i am gunna start taking it out and trying some stuff - although it seems super heavy… maybe its just me coz my roadie is so light?!
i ride downhill and freeride mountain biking quite alot, i did do alot of bmxing this summer but i broke my bmx :(. My favourite has to be downhill though, cos of the pure speed and risk of hitting a tree (which i have done many a time). Anyone had any funny biking accidents?
I have had many but this huge one, stuffed my wheel. Hit a stump at huge speed and went over the bars with my ankle somehow through the frame. Cracked my ankle very slightly.
haha sweet!! i did a similar thing when i did a tabletop straight into a tree… the bike didn’t come out of it well but i was fine luckily :). My funniest was hitting a berm to fast and flying over the top of it, down a hill straight into a barbed wire fence, luckily i managed to bail before i hit it.
I’ve never injured myself badly though, the worst i have done is rip my shin open.
But i always wear my full face and knee and shin guards now, so its all good.
yeah ive had 2 hoffmans…my 16 and 18…but thats when i was small. hoffmans are VERY heavy, but almost indestructible. i now have an eastern lowdown, i know its kinda crappy, but the on;y things that are still staock are the headset, seatpost clamp, seatpost, frame, and brake caliper. i have profile hubs, sun rims, eastern ultra slim forks, odssey bars, seat and stem, profile cranks+ BB+sproket, and a ton of other stuff. my bike is AWESOME…ill load pics some time.
al together w/ all very lite, but strong, parts i think i got it to about 24.5 lbs…which is really good for a dirt jumping bike. my bmx race bike is about 20 lbs.(which is also almost completely custom)
my mtb is a Kona Stuff JR(the 24 model). i got it when i was younger and outgrew it. i now want to get a Kona Coilair 2008, b/c i want a freeride full suspension, b/c i KILL my ankles on my hard tale, even on the small drops that i do, and it is also much to small
go to a st. vincents or goodwill, you can get roadbikes for $10-$20 and they will last you awhile. (if you don’t mind the fact that they are from the 70’s), i get all my road bikes at st. vinnies. top speed somewhere around 30-45 mph on average.
just to add to my previous post, i don’t own a car. i ride my bike in the summer, around town, to get from point a to point b etc, but it is made of steel. when winter rolls around, i put my bike(s) away and get out my stainless steel torker dx. it handles the road salt and other rust inducing things that are on the snow coverd roads. its slower but better.
p.s. i love not having to pay for gas or car insurance!!!
kona stuff’s are good bikes, so are the coilairs, personally i prefer kona stinky’s just because they are good for downhill. But for an overall full suss mtb i would say a kona howler because they are amazing bikes. Im riding a mongoose pro rockadale al, the only stock parts on it are the seat, frame, handlebars, stem and cranks. Everything else has been replaced with really strong parts because it used to be owned by a bike hire company who sent it out on dirt tracks and stuff, so they made it a super solid bike. It works great for me.
idt kona has an '08 howler…the stinky is nice…but the coilair is better for climbing and i dont have a chair lift, do i have to go up to come down. i think that the coilair is the best freeride centered bike that has all around advantages…but yes the stinky prob is bet for downhill/freeride(if you dont have to go up…ill check the howler…not real familiar w/ that
edit: it looks nice, but again is not a great climber
also…i forgot to sat that yur bike sounds awesome.
Yeah they arnt great climbers which is a shame because they are amazing bikes though.
Yeah my bike is good, it’s only a hardtail but i prefer them because it is better to learn downhill skills on a hardtail before i go onto a full suss. I will have to post some pics when i get some. I think im going to get some new forks because mine are only 75mm at the moment, they cant be bottomed out but i would be better with about 120mm i think.
My mate is building a downhill full suss out of a frame he got for £10 off his mate, it looks amazing and it is super strong i’ll post pics when i get them.
I rode my bike for the first time in half a year this week and let me tell you it felt weird. The bike is a 1999 Kona Hahana with an Xtracycle extension. until I got into unicycling I would ride my bike every day and averaged around 10k km a year. Pretty much every component has been replaced at least once from it getting worn out broken or just in need of an upgrade. I think the only things that are still stock on it are the BB the frame and the quick release.
It has always felt very natural to be on that bike but now after cokering every day and neglecting Mr. X (my bike) for so long it just didn’t feel normal. It was heavy but the wheels were light, which was odd, I was way to close to the road and the handlebars were really wide and further forward than I remembered them and it was LONG. It is weird how a bike can feel much less maneuverable than a unicycle now and a couple years ago I had troubles making a unicycle turn the way that I wanted it to go.
If my bike was not set up to haul stuff I think I would sell it but as it is it is nice to be able to get $80 of groceries and haul it home without burning gas.
