Yeah I might do that. I’ll have to look for a 20" muni tire.
Is the 20“ still your only uni? I thought you were looking for a bigger wheel.
It’s not my only uni, I have a 28" road and a giraffe, but I ride to school on the 20.
I like the atmosphere and the landscape in fall. Riding on the leaf-covered forest paths is sometimes fantastically smooth.
But also sometimes surprises on the ground are hidden under the leaves. This already lead to a UPD for me. So it is kind of spooky to ride and not to see what is underneath ![]()
The Schwalbe Marathon Winter (with studs) is also available in 20", though I don’t know if a wider version is available. I have one on my 28" and it’s just fine for pavement. Not for muni. though.
I went for an autumn ride last evening after a light rain, the wind was very evident and it was chilly as the sun began to go down at 6:30. My riding days are numbered as I am not a winter rider. I have converted my indoor riding space into a dance studio for my daughter with a special floor so winter riding there will be out of the question. I will continue to ride here and there as day light and weather permits. I will look for opportunities to ride in December and January on those special days where the weather is nice, hopefully on new years day in particular , a new years ride is a great predictor of a good season to come. I’ve already set up my bike trainer and will have to be content with getting my pedal strokes indoors and looking forward to spring.
It’s been a good riding season for me, I rode often and a lot on the 32” nightfox I cobbled together. I am truly greatfull for the network of trails in my area that are convenient and intersting to ride and I am truly greatful for my week riding at Rehoboth beach.
Yesterday I had a great Autumn ride. I ride home from the work with the 36”. 19,52 km with 255 Elevation Metres in 1 hour and 26 Minutes.
Yes, but the colors are great.
I was really a bit jealous about you guys posting pictures of your autumn rides while I couldn’t unicycle. But today my doc gave me permission to take up riding again
. I didn’t even dare to ask (I was originally supposed to patient another two weeks …I guess it’s good to have a doc who is also a unicyclist
). “You know, it’s wet and slippery due to the leaves… and, I mean, under these conditions I did fall even with my b!cycle, in the past. But you’re an experienced unicyclist, so you know how to behave. Just don’t push the envelope!”.
So, naturally, the first thing to do when I came home was to hop on a uni and see what it feels like to ride again after a 6 week break. It was… kind of a relief. And such a joy! I literally had a big grin on my face, that would only go away after I had stowed my 20er away again.
Now, I will have to be gentle. No stunts, no muni, no fast riding - basically avoid to fall at any cost. And, for the time being, never ride without some protection to the wrist that was operated - just in case. I guess the most difficult thing will be to avoid to try and catch the uni in case of a UPD. Experience tells me that wouldn’t be a good idea.
Looking forward to my first real ride!
The weather is supposed to be quite good tomorrow.
