That was a great game to watch. I’m sad now though. You must admit that the red card on the Italian was also unfair.

I think it was a penalty, it might not have been a foul but it was definitely obstruction. If Neill hadn’t laid in front of him the Italian would have had a shot on goal.
Australia have played really well, it’s a shame to see them knocked out, but Italy were the better team yesterday. Maybe it would have been a different story if Kewell had been able to play.
neill was entitled to lay infront of the ball, he did not make an attempt to intefere directly with the player, he did not go for him and pull him down, he laid there and the italian player ran into him.
It was a marginal decision and could have gone either way, so we’ll just have to disagree on whether it should have been a penalty or not.
Anyway, I think Italy deserved to go through, because they dominated in the first half, kept the Aussies out when they were down to ten men (after a marginal decision to send Materazzi off), and also because they were due some good luck after really being robbed four years ago against South Korea!
Australia now need to sort themselves out with another good coach, and build on their success in Germany. If you guys can put as much energy into developing soccer as you have into developing rugby, cricket, and Olympic sports, I’m sure the Socceroos will be able to reach the quarter-finals in 2010 easily!
yeah italy did play pretty good considering they didnt have much posession of the ball.
i respect coach Guus, he’s done awesomly. you have to give it to the soceroos for making it as far as they did.
