Attempt of Fastest Circumnavigation [World] by unicycle. Start Sydney 12 Jan 2026

Hi,

My tracker:

Shows I am just 50km (30 miles) west of Toledo.

I’ll be there in 2 days.

Apologies, the red line in MAProgress live tracker was my intended route. I should be following it from Erie.

I have 29 more days in USA before visa free period expires on July 17.

So I may have time to ride Toledo - Akron - Cleveland - Erie - Buffalo - Niagara Falls then cross to Canada.

See below route with km distance markers:

To estimate my arrival times in each city,

Say I travel at 30km per day, so:

Toledo 60km to go (2 days) Sat 20 June

Akron 300km to go (10 days) Sun 28 Jun

Cleveland 360km to go (12 days) Tues 30 Jun

Erie 520km to go (18 days) Mon 6 Jul

Buffalo 650km to go (21 days) Thu 9 Jul

Niagara Falls 700km to go (24 days) Sun 12 Jul

Please view Maprogess live tracker for exact location at any time.

29 Days until Jul 17, last possible day in USA

(90 days visa free period expiry)

Edit: I just realised there is the Ohio Erie Towpath. I plan to ride Akron - Cleveland on the towpath.

That actually looks good for me. I might be able to ride along somewhere inside the PA border anywhere from July 3-8, depending on how your travel goes. I’ll keep my eyes open on your progress…

Hey,
I’m in the process of planning the last legs of my ride to Niagara Falls.
I’m aiming to spend Saturday 4th of July in Pennsylvania, probably around Erie.
There is another unicyclist, Garrett Taylor who can meet me there too.

Any unicyclists or cyclists in Cleveland wishing to meet up,

I will be riding through tomorrow (Thursday).

Are you coming through DC?

Sorry, I won’t be going to DC.
My visa free period of 90 days expires July 17.
So I will only have time to get to Buffalo / Niagara Falls to cross into Canada.

Good luck with this incredible adventure! This is an amazing feat!

Could you explain the concept, and what the criterions for the Guinness world record you are attempting is? Has anyone attempted this before? Or are you competing against the continous uni circumnavigators?

I have browsed through this thread a couple of times and this is still unclear to me. I have seen your route, and have the impression that you can do the legs in any order you like, and go home in between. Since I thought circumnavigation was a continous Ed Pratt style adventure I got very confused in the beginning.

Good job on completing 60% in half a year!

Hi

After an incident involving contact with a car in Ohio, USA, I have had to stop my unicycle tour attempt for Guinness Record:

“ Fastest circumnavigation by unicycle”

I got discharged from hospital after scans and X-rays were clear. I have swelling in left leg and can walk ok, just stiff and, at times tender medial side left knee. I have a knee brace with hinge. Suspected Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) grade 1.

Now I plan to go to Unicon22, and maybe ask to be a volunteer. I will also have my G36 unicycle and hope to join social tour rides, if I am able. I am informed that a MCL grade 1 injury can take about 2-3 weeks to heal to the point of light exercise.

I’ll have my camping gear so am hoping I can get accommodation in the classrooms set up for Unicon22 accommodation - which require sleeping bag & mat.

I am satisfied I got his far, approx. 5700km, with regard to all circumstances at this point-in-time in my life.

The distance is not too far to repeat again, if I get the chance to attempt a world tour again.

I am feeling good about how I managed to give it a go, so will have no regrets going forward.

I can now wait and hope for circumstances to be favourable for future tours possibly with other funding strategies in place.

I learned so much in this tour, including equipment and equipment setup suitable for me.

It was so good to catch up with, and meet so many friends and new friends in New Zealand, the United States and Canada.

Cheers

Norm

So sorry to hear you’ve had to stop the circumnavigation attempt. 5700km is still an extremely long distance to tour and you should be proud of what you’ve learned and achieved. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Rest up and see you at Unicon.

Ken Looi tells me there is a Uni-Touring Workshop at Unicon22.

And I should present my experiences and learnings from my circumnavigation attempt.

I am happy to do that, including presenting my interactions with Guinness.

I have a copy of the Guinness Guidelines issued for “Fastest circumnavigation by unicycle” which would be of interest to many.

I believe that according to Guinness, no one has ever officially circumnavigated the globe. Two people have unofficially though. Sorry to hear about your injuries

That’s too bad you had to stop because of that.

I would love to chat with you during unicon about your attempt, and what you learned during it.

Hope you will be able to ride at least a bit.

See you there, heal well during the upcoming two weeks.

I am so sorry to hear this news, I was waiting to see when you would be into Pennsylvania. I wish you all of the best in your recovery.

Thanks Aurelian,

I’m starting to recover, I just got on a stationery bike in the gym and starting to get the flexibility back into knee.

Yeah, see you at Unicon22.

It will be my first time going and I am so looking forward to meeting you and all the unicycle community.

That‘s a bummer! Glad your injury is not worse, and wishing you a fast and complete recovery. Also good to read that you even consider a second attempt, if things come together in the future. That‘s the mindset of someone who hopes for the best.
