Bought a wired cycling computer and went on a 24mile ride today, my second longest ever.
My longest ride, 30miles, was on the 29er with 100mm cranks and stock naomi impact saddle. My crotch went numb and feeling of smallness forcing me to rest a minute every 1-2 miles, and i had pain urinating afterwards.
This time, I…
-used schwalbe marathon supreme 29x2.0 tire (instead of big apple)
-used kh adujstable seatpost
-wore bike shorts(cheap at $20?, first pair of bike shorts I’ve owned)
-flattened my saddle(as much as I could with the instructions in the ghetto flat-saddle thread)
-cut a groove in the foam about 2cm wide
-used 89mm cranks
-used a smaller camelback packpack instead of my padded-back school backpack
-used a waterbottle cage
-attached a ghetto handlebar, post your homemade handlebars here! - #228 by unicycleharry
-installed a cateye velo7 cycle computer
yes…i know…i’m not controlling my variables properly…so my results are not very meaningful…but, I had quite some time up till now, so I slowly added mods and parts one after another…
I only went less, 24 miles today, but riding speed avg 10.0mph.
No numbness.
Left side of crotch where it meets my thigh, got sore. I’m guessing because I could not get myself to sit centered on my saddle.
Thought I was good, but painful to urinate, probably more than my last experience.
So, I came home, and read(re-read) through a bunch of threads, about comfort, saddle, health, cycling computers, handlebars.
I decided that the naomi impact was too rounded with elevated center(even with my groove).
I have a fusion freeride that I used on my 3rd and 4th longest ride(~15miles). It garnered chafing and burning(but no numbness or urinating problems).
Therefore, I am putting the freeride saddle back on the 29er. Problem is, I want to be able to have my cycling computer visible(not on seatpost/frame), and I dont want to purchase a $110 t-bar yet…So I remembered seeing unigoat’s diy fender.
I had contemplating making handlebars like this…but obviously knew it would be to weak. Well, now I could use this for something! I used a longer pvc pipe and now I have a place to attach my cycling computer!
I hope this will improve my next ride…
