Yeah, that was Rodney King from the famous police chase where many claim that the cops used excessive force during his arrest. He tried evading the cops by leading them in a long car chase, and when they finally stopped him, a bystander with a video camera caught footage of several cops smacking him upside the head multiple times with batons while he was down.
They claim he was resisting and kept trying to get up and fight them off, and all but three cops were acquited. The verdicts sparked the famous riots that followed. King was awared 3.8 million! King was not a choir boy, and had several other arrests, including trying to run somebody over! But still, most people, including me, who remember seeing that video would likely say that it was a classic case of police brutality.
Dang some policemen need to come beat me excessively, I would really like 3.8 million dollars.
