Hello, Unicyclists! I cannot seem to find new or second-hand freewheel unicycles, just hubs. Do I need to build my own, or is there anywhere that sells fully made freewheel unicycles, new or second-hand?
Hi,
There are no commercially available pre-made freewheel unicycles. You are right. However, you can probably ask your unicycle shop to lace a freewheel hub instead of a fixed one. This should cost much

Looks like a complete freewheel unicycle to me. Not that I like the price though.
Freewheels secondhand are rare. To date I have only seen one that was sold.
Max is correct that any competent bike shop can lace the wheel for a fee. However I would say that the best bet is lacing one yourself. It will give you the confidence in knowing how to repair your uni should anything happen.
Whichever route you take, it will take a while to tame the freewheel beast. They really are fun to ride and the challenge to learn improves a lot of riding skills.
Well yes, but I am pretty sure it would be built to order, using Mad4One’s frames in whatever size and colour you choose with whatever parts you choose, and of course their FlickFlock hub – the cost of the rest of the unicycle is relatively small compared to the hub itself – it is a bit like “I’d like a freewheel hub – can you make up a unicycle with it please…”
I’m sure if you asked UDC if they would do a new Nimbus or KH (or QuAx…) with a PipiFax hub, they would work out a deal with you (assuming they can still get the hubs). It is not as if they’ll be getting a container load of these sent over pre-assembled from Taiwan at a knock down price.
That is for sure what is happening, Mad4One is a small operation and they build everything to order.
I can’t access the link, but thanks for the source. How much was the unicycle that the link showed?
The link lists 8 freewheel unicycles ranging is size from 24" to 29". They are about €1,750.00 (about $1,850 USD)
They also list an ISIS Flick Flock Hub alone for €1,184.00
