Re: are there any uni riders in San Antonio, Texas?

This might help you. =
http://www.unicycling.org/roster/index.php?state=3Dtx I live close to =
Austin, but not close to SA, though. This web site might give you the =
kind of people you’re looking for within SA. =20

I am curious… after you learn how to ride, where do you plan to ride =
in SA? Correct me if I am wrong, but I think SA only has one park where =
you could ride, which would be McAllister Park? =20

Is it only possible to ride in parks in Texas for some reason? Why can’t one ride to the library on the streets or sidewalks? Are parking lots also closed to cycling? How about errands to the market?

maybe mccalister

thanks for your responses on mccalister park. i especially found it interesting. and, yes many parking lots are closed off to cycling and skateboarding. i live in a fairly rural area, so it will be hard to find a place to uni once i get good enough.
thanks a lot

Wow. I guess Austin is less strict or I’m just lucky. I have been =
practicing in a high school parking lot (and I still am) and nobody told =
me to stop. In fact, once an Austin police officer drove by through the =
parking lot, but he didn’t say anything to me. But then again, I =
usually only practice on a Sunday and when the high school parking is =
empty (Sunday mornings times can be busy over there).

Re: are there any uni riders in San Antonio, Texas?

I have seen one or two unicyclist riding on the sidewalk before. In =
Texas, any unicyclist is welcome to ride their unicycle to the library =
or to the market. There are no prohibition against unicycles. I have =
not visited all the parks in Austin, but the ones I have seen do have =
parking lots adjacent to the park. =20

I suggested parks only because it’s usually safe to ride there. Plus, =
there are lots of trees in the park. I don’t think it is safe to ride =
on the road because of reckless drivers (we have too many of those kind =
here in Texas). I have only once ridden my unicycle in an Austin park =
(Mary Moore Searight park and I hope to do more in the future) and I =
didn’t have to worry about drunk drivers. =20

It’s Texas - the oil companies paid the authorities to dig up the
sidewalks to make more room for cars.

Of course, this wasn’t because the oil companies are trying to encourage
people to drive. They just thought less people would get run over if
there weren’t any pedestrians.
