AP testing

The last two weeks have been AP testing week in the US. Did any of you guys take any tests, and if so which tests? Also, just for discussions sake, what are some of your opinions on AP testing/classes? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Placement_Program

there is some info on the testing/program for those of you not familiar with it.

I took the English Language and Macroeconomics tests this year. I also really like the idea of AP testing, because i love the idea of just taking a test as opposed to an un-needed class.

Last year I took AP calculus BC, AP physics B and AP language and composition. This year I only took AP physics C (mechanics).
They are cool if the college you go to accepts the credit, but that is different depending on where you go. The tests are curved quite a bit so you can get a pretty low percentage and still pass.
I think it is a better idea to take classes at a community college during high school than take AP tests because colleges are usually more likely to accept the credit.

Really? The administrators at my school and schools around mine say that more colleges accept AP test credit than dual-enrollment credit.

I could be wrong, I know that some school don’t accept AP credit (for certain classes, and I am sure it depends on your major too). The administrators at your school probably know much more than I do about what credit different schools accept.
Wouldn’t taking classes at a community college while in high school be the same as starting at a CC then transferring to a university later?

That’s what it seems like it should be, but at least for the schools around where I live, when you take the classes at a CC, you can have it go towards high school or college credit. not both, im sure im missing something somewhere, and i wouldn’t put it past my schools administrators to play up the AP program, so they don’t have to pay the tuition fees for kids taking the college classes.

here it’s towards both, otherwise I have to take algebra again to get enough credits to graduate…stupid school only goes to calc1

Or if you’re lucky, like I am very thankful to be, you can take advantage of the school’s IB program. I’ve gone through most of the absolute hell that is IB tests in the past couple weeks. Sooo much writing, almost 15 hours of testing that first week of tests, few more test papers this past week. Just got paper 3 of my higher level math test on monday, and these last four years of IB are DONE!!!

Oh but to stay on topic, I’m not taking any AP tests this year cause I wanted to concentrate on the IB ones, but I took AP history, english lang&comp, and psychology last year, got straight 4s.

Last year I took AP US History and AP Statistics. This year was AP Calculus, AP Government, and AP Language and Comp. Not too tough this year, hope I passed them all!

I took AP Lang + Comp this year, although I absolutely hate english class. Oh well, I’m probably going to be an engineer major of some sort, and if I did well then there’s just another class I don’t have to take.

My sister took like 4 AP tests the past few weeks (and 2 last year).

I took A.P. biology and world history. One kid at my school stole an A.P. chemistry test and every single person that took the test has to retake it 'cause all the tests were invalidated. :astonished:

I took AP US History, English, and Psych last year, and got 5, 4, 5.

Out of curiosity, who here has heard of IB (International Baccalaureate)? It’s an international program (department of redundancy department, please hold), but it’s not as popular/well known in the US. I know one of the adults on the forum (phlegm, maybe?) graduated IB, but that’s about it. Anyone else?

I’ve heard of it, but my school doesn’t give students the option to partake in it.

I took AP stats like 2 weeks ago. I enjoyed the class but we will see how the test went :sunglasses:

last year i passed the ap biology test and i ended up changing majors right before college and now i don’t get to use the credits.

I have only heard about it online. I don’t know of any schools around here that offer it.

WOOO! Finished my last IB test today!

4 years of sucktitude are done with!
