Anyway to improve the Torker LX seat?

Aside from major surgery (either on me or the seat),
or you know, buying a new seat (& post?), is there anything
i can do to improve the comfort of the seat? I know these seats
are notorious for sucking, but i also didn’t want to have to buy
a new seat, etc, when i bought it.

I noticed somebody said in one of the other threads that they shimmed
the seat bolts with washers, to change the angle of the seat…
would that sort of thing make a significant difference?
And what way would the seat need to be angled? Up in the front, or up in
the back? Or is there no consensus on that, since everybody rides a
little different.

-m.s.

I made mine into a airseat using one of the tuturials on this site. It was really easy and it is pretty comfoy now.

Yep. Ive done the same to 3 or 4 LX seats now.

Remove the handle and bumper.
They have metal clamps to hold the cover on, ply those open a little. Remove the cover and the foam.

Get a drill, and if you look at you back bumper, there is a little notch right there. Where that notch is, when the bumper is on the base, drill a hole right there, so the valve can fit through the base.

Take your tube, and fold it kinda like a rectangle, and it will fit perfectly on the base, being just long enough to cover the back, the side length, and the front section. You may want to loosely put duct tape to hold the tube in place. Put the valve down through the hole you drilled.

Put the cover back on, and make sure the tube is still in place. Put the clamps back on the cover. Not too tight, or it will rip through the cover, and slowly (or quickly) rip the whole cover down the side.

Put the handle and back bumper back on. Pump up the tube. Enjoy.

Do a search for a more detailed guide, but that is the basics of it.

Re: Anyway to improve the Torker LX seat?

Thanks!
I kinda figured that’s what folks would suggest, but i was put off by
the estimated 90 minutes that UDC quoted for the process.
I’ll probably go by one of the LBS tomorrow, and look for a tube.

I checked out the detailed tutorial, with pics, and it looks pretty
easy, so i’ll give it a go. I’ll let y’all know how it goes.

Good luck. I used a 12" or 16" tube from wal mart I cant remember which but either should work. It probably takes about 30 mins at tops.

Re: Anyway to improve the Torker LX seat?

So: I went out and got a 12.5" x 2.25" tube at the LBS (and a pump, cuz
i didn’t have one), and went to work on the seat. Turns out i didn’t
have an appropriate metric socket, but one of the english was close
enough, though the nuts did have a tendency to wedge themselves into the
socket…

Note to self: buy metric socket set.

Got the seat peeled apart no problem, drilled my hole (which needed to
be filed out, since i don’t have a bit that was big enough… no wait. I
do too. I just remembered what tool box it was in. Oh well.), fitted the
tube, taped it in place here and there, and refit the cover.

Wrestling the friggin seat post on and off was by far the biggest
hassle. Especially seeing as how i didn’t tape the bolts to the saddle
frame, and one fell off after i had the saddle mostly assembled, and i
had to take it apart again to put the bolt back in the hole (where i
taped it).

Took about an hour, all told, because of looking for stuff, running out
of tape, and having to more or less put the seat back together twice.

Haven’t taken it out to attempt riding on yet, as i figured i’d let it
cool down outside a bit.

It looks a bit bulge-y in the center of the saddle, and perhaps a bit
thin in back, so i might take it back apart later tonight, tape the
center down to keep it from over inflating, and then cut a butt pad out
of the foam that i took out of the seat.

I’ll decide on that after riding about a bit.
Or, well, getting on, attempting to pedal a few feet, and falling down.
Same diff, right?

Re: Anyway to improve the Torker LX seat?

Went out and took the new seat for a spin.

Much better than the stock seat, i have to say.
Also pleased to report that my ‘riding’ is getting better,
and I feel like i’m starting to ‘get it’, and that in a few more days,
i’ll be able to actually ride, if only a little way.
I’m pretty pleased.

why do everyone complain about the stock seats. i ride carbon fiber with a half pad(cutin half) and it is comfortable enough to do the job. the stocks are fairly comfortable, and everyone is like oh the KH seats are way better and i find they are not that much better.

Maybe you’ve just got an Iron Groin, like a Shaolin Monk.

I actually like the air seat pretty firm, almost as hard as the
stock saddle, but the shape is suits my butt better, it seems,
and it’s slightly narrow in the center, and not as big in the front.

All just matters of personal preference.
