It has a classic mode which is basically the same screen style graphics as XP. Then there is the fancy 3D enhancements where every window is a 3D element that can be made to tilt and do 3D transitions and stuff like that. It’s the new 3D stuff that is the system hog, but you can use the old style window graphics and avoid the 3D overhead. The 3D stuff makes heavy use of the GPU and the graphics memory for textures (the textures are your windows and UI).

I’m not running Vista and I’m not interested in running a beta OS. Playing with a beta OS takes time. You have to wipe the partition when you want to uninstall (you can’t install new versions over the beta versions). You can’t really do real work on it since you can’t trust it and you’ll need to wipe the partition anyways when it’s time to uninstall it.
I prolly won’t go to Vista until I build a new computer for gaming, which likely won’t be until I’m done school forever (many years from now). Assuming that the EFI thing gets resolved, I’ll likely buy a Mac next, but not until it can boot XP and Linux as well as OSX. OSX is pretty and cool, Linux has the applications I actually use daily, and XP has a couple apps I need on occasion…
Except that I’m still convinced that the Mac/Intel route may have been a bad choice with the awesomeness that is AMD x86-64.

why not run on linux ? way more stable then win…I had a root of a linux that was over 100days long
Windows Vista is supposed to have support for EFI based computers. So you should be able to dual boot Mac OS X and Windows Vista once Vista is released. I don’t think it will ever work with XP unless someone manages to create a low level hack that allows XP to run on an EFI system.

The new iMacs and PowerBooks have the Intel processors. It is likely that future machines (if not these) will be able to dual-boot Windows, Mac and/or even Linux. But according to Apple, they won’t be making anything to encourage this. It will have to come from third parties. At least based on current statements.
The choice to go with Intel was a long-term as well as short-term one. Intel has the better technology for low-power laptop chips, which is perhaps what Apple needed the most, at least to start. We’ll see where it all goes.
Well its holding out alright. its a bit faster then xp. Theres a few things which are annoying like my media card reader doesnt have right drivers and my camera doesnt either so when i want to upload pictures ill have to go back to xp, although theres a thing at the start which maybe allows me to start in xp im not sure.]
