Someone made an edit to the unicycle entry in Wikipedia. They made a change on April 26th to the section about Riding.
Old:
Riding a unicycle typically takes between 10 and 15 hours to learn.
New:
Riding a unicycle typically takes between 10 and 15 days at the least to learn.
That section needs to be changed back. And that section could do with some editing. Maybe something like:
Riding a unicycle typically takes between 10 and 15 hours of practice time to learn to ride forwards with some control.
Or whatever.
I don’t want to take the time to learn how to do the Wikipedia editing and all the garbage that goes with it. So someone already familiar with the process and the rules should fix that section.
It’s possible to link to most anything in the Wikipedia for good or bad.
I see the Wikipedia entry has been updated. Reads much better now. The previous edit must have been done by someone who tried to learn and never managed or by someone who never had any proper instruction about how to go about learning to ride.
Even the current estimate of 10 - 15 hours seems to be more than what is estimated by Klaas’ stats.
One of these day’s I’ll have to read through the editing procedures and policies at Wikipedia. It’s just not something that I’m interested in right now.
The Wikipedia entry could possibly do with a section on learning to ride. I’ve noticed that there are no good clear and concise learning guides on the Internet. There’s lots of sites with learning tips but nothing that is really clear and concise and well written. I’ve got links to sites with learning info in my Megalist of Bookmarks under Unicycle Learning and Tips, but there’s nothing there that I really like.
What do you think of the formula: It takes 3 - 4 times longer to learn to unicycle than it took you to learn to ride a bicycle.
Someone said this to me, and it seemed about right. Age is prolly a factor as well. Like learning languages and to read music, your brain is primed before age 8, after which it becomes increasingly difficult.
I’m not saying I know, but I’d like other’s ideas on this. When riding, I get that question a lot, and I generally assure that they can learn, with practice.

The Big Picture- The entire population of the world, with one minor exception, is composed of others.
“Riding a unicycle typically takes between 10 and 15 hours of practise time to learn to ride forwards with some control, unless one has a stinking awsome inherent natural ability for riding this one-wheeled aparatus.”
It’s probably someone on the forums trying to make some kind of joke. I imagine now that you’ve posted it that it’ll get much attention and editing whether good or bad.
Clue #1: Edit to Wikipedia was done at 04:21 UTC time which is 9:21 PM PDT West Coast USA time and just three minutes before your post complaining about the edit.
Clue #2: The IP address for the edit is 24.113.61.133 which happens to map to a little town just south of Bremerton WA.
Ok, so maybe it was me, but at least I was going to change it this morning (but someone already did). I seriously wouldn’t leave it that way, I just wanted to see if anybody would figure out it was me. Smart going, Mr. Childs, brownie points to you and a naughty hat for me.
Doesn’t sound like he’s pointing a finger in any direction, just addressing whomever edited it. YOU incriminated yourself. Doesn’t take a trace route to figure that much out.
