Did you right-click in the page and select “view page source?” This gives you the html code that craigslist produced for the page. From the source it looks like he inserts the photo as a website image reference in the middle of a field of centered text. Maybe the website designers can tell you what’s going on here. I pulled the html and am going to fiddle with it to see what it does. I’m a hack, though.
Edit: Your source reads as if the image should be centered also. It’s done differently, inside a table, whereas your competition appears to be in a text stream.
Methinks he pasted that into the text box where he entered the text for his ad (as mentioned in my earlier post).
That said, his ad does not look better than yours, other than being shorter and more concise. Your ad will be easier to read if you left-align the text. If Craigslist allows it, you might be able to input a whole table (to control the width) with your text and centered image into the text box. But hey, it’s Craigslist and it’s not about being beautiful. If anything, your competitor’s ad is a quicker read, so it might stand a better chance of being read. Yours is pretty long. If you want to work on that aspect, put your major points at the top, then the details below everything else for people who want to read more.
Tnanks for the input. I’ve actually already had lots of calls and booked several tunings in just the first few days of the ad! But I really only posted it just to see how what response I’d get.
The majority of my business comes from my repeat clients, referrals/word of mouth (still the best!) from music teachers, music stores, and even other technicians. Plus my YP ad, also on yahoo and a big sign in my front yard that pays my mortgage lol!
