I’ll be heading off to Brandeis University in January and as a unicyclist I was wondering if there is a unicycle club in Boston or Massachusetts in general. Do any of you unicyclists in MA know of one? I have hopes to create a Brandeis unicycle club.
There is, in fact, so I’ve heard, not a single person in Massachusetts who rides a unicycle. To the best of my knowledge unicycles are banned in Great Barrington and Pittsfield.
I’m in Boston and I desperately need more people to ride with. I don’t know of any clubs in MA though, I wish there were.
Im in CT…very close to fall river…east killingly connecticut area…30 minute drive to fall river area…my friends and i are trying to start a club but we don’t know many people who ride…
Why the hell would they be banned?
Maybe we can meet up this coming spring and ride with some of my college friends assuming they brought their unis.
Definitely, let me know when you are around.
Are there any fun winding paths or off road paths in any local parks around Boston?
If you live there, you must have been to Pizza King. I live in Massachusetts and have been there many times.
I’m also a rider in the Boston area, actually south of Boston. Mostly Muni. Between Waltham and Boston there should be quite a few places to ride.
MANY MANY TIMES =]
Because they’re weird.
If in fact unicycles were banned in those towns for being weird, I will try and have the ban revoked. Nothing should be banned because it seems weird. It is only labeled as weird b/c most people don’t do it. If most ppl could ride unis and then one person decided to ride a bike, the bike would be labeled as weird.
You did not just play that card. I have a sense of humor. It may lean toward the intellectual side many times, but it’s still humor. When it comes to discrimination in the law, I don’t. Here’s a very short anecdote about my job and the so called “humor” two co-workers expressed through laughter at me.
We were talking about calling other employees to the front for customer assistance. Several guys' names were mentioned. In the last sentence the younger girl said, "Tell him to call your extension." I replied, "Don't use so many antecedents. I don't know to whom you are referring." Then they laughed. They didn't say why they were laughing, so one of my co-workers who understood why I was confused explained to me. There's nothing wrong with being grammatically correct, but some people find it funny.
At some point you will encounter Miss A, our resident grammarian - and one hot lady. You and she will get along. I’m certain the word “antecedent” properly used is for her a potent aphrodisiac.
its a joke …he was joking when he said they were banned, when you took it seriously he tried to tell you by posting that link, it seems you still dont quite get it, UNICYCLES aren’t banned, lol;)
PS: Dont Mess with james, lol your kinda new here but you should probably know, that was like the first lesson i learned, james will own you in anything mental (for the most part)
Oho I DID just play that card!!
I realize that joking about blacks, or gays, or women, having a problem with civil rights could be found offensive, considering the history with such, but I have yet to see discrimination against someone for the too few wheels, so I assumed it’d be cool. If I had any idea it was such a touchy subject with you, I never would have made that comment.
(actually I would have)
aquaman,
Before this goes too far and you get the idea that we’re all assholes - which may, in fact, in some cases actually be the case (you get to decide for yourself) - I’d just like to say that these sorts of exchange are not atypical. It’s just not necessarily fair to impose them on a new comer to the group.
So, are you transferring to Brandeis or did you take a little time off before starting college?
yes, look up the satanist thread and you will see that their sense of humor can be alittle bit, shall we say, harsh
PS:Those were my first couple of posts on the fourms
It’s all good people. Just wanted to get that off my chest.
I applied regular decision to Brandeis in January '07, but they accepted me as a mid-year student. All this means is I don’t start until second semester and I have to graduate in 3.5 years instead of 4. I am taking time off only because Brandeis basically forced it upon me. Brandeis was one of two of my second choice colleges. My early decision application to Tufts University got rejected. I did not want to reject an acceptance just b/c I wouldn’t start until second semester.
Well, best of luck. College was fun. In retrospect perhaps it should have been a little less fun.
