Just thought I’d ask around; I’m curious as to how poplular it is. Anyone play text-based muds–like the ones that were created way back before graphics?
In case you have no clue what I’m talking about, a MUD stands for Multi User Dungeon. It’s a type of online gaming. Usually they are text-only but some have come out with graphics. Lots of fun!
I’ll never stop playing Rogue. I’ve never seen the Amulet of Yendor in the 18 years I’ve been playing it (more off than on).
I’ll never start playing Nethack. Way too involved for my taste.
I just discovered, and am now addicted to, Doom-RL. It’s Rogue-like version of the classic FPS Doom with some RPG elements. I think what makes it rock so hard is the fact that (unlike most Rogue-like games) it includes all the original sounds and soundtrack from Doom.
Edit: Oops! Just realized… these aren’t multi-user. But they’re all text! Go text, go!
i used to play a few of them in school. we had about four that i can think of, doing the rounds at any one time. But i havn’t really been on any for about a year (at least)
I haven’t played a MUD, but I have played Zork back in the 80’s when I had an Apple ][+. I played through part of the first Zork adventure just last year as a bit of nostalgia. Couldn’t remember how to get past the cyclops.
