Any Guitar Makers?

Hi guys,
I’m making an electric guitar for my Tech final piece at school, and I’m just wondering if any of you have any experience in making an electric guitar? If so, how hard is it overall? any tips on the electronic routings?

I started looking into it a while back, but never did much about it. Costs for me were just too much, and seeing as I already have a couple of guitars it was not really worth it. I still want to do it, but possibly when I have more spare cash.

Here is a link to a useful resource that has additional links. Should get you started ok.

Ive thought about it. The next guitar I want to buy with the options will be around $3k -$4k. So ill most likely be doing a custom job or half stock, half custom.

Guitar work can be easy, but pick easy materials to work with. So when you mess up you arent tossing a couple hundred dollars worth of wood.

Its fun to go to pawn shops, pick up cheap used Ibanez’ and whatever else they have there for $10-$50, and then beat the crap out of it. Learn to do finishes, neck work, inlay work, electronics and all that stuff.

Scalloping guitar necks is one of my favorite ‘mods’. My neck step is to try a holoflash finish on an old Peavey I have.

Never had a chance to deal with the electric wirings. But I sure did personalized my guitar by choosing different unique parts and putting them together as one. You see you can just ask somebody to have a look at it and I think you should ask some electricians on that matter.

Remembered one of my favorite sites. Projectguitar.com

When making your guitar, to let it really stand out, do custom inlays to your board. Your initials for the 12th fret, a big design running through the last 10 frets or something. I always thought that gives a guitar the most personal of mods.

And all the work would probably get you an A just in the neck alone.

Hey guys, thanks for the help.
Jerrick - I already found projectguitar.com, it’s a brilliant site, and as inlays are expensive I think I’m only going for two on the 12th fret, (that’s the only one I really look out for, I can work out the rest from there) so I may go for a custom inlay like you said.
I also found this site: http://www.axetec.co.uk/ , they have really cheap parts (I don’t need anything expensive incase it goes wrong), and good reviews. I also found this: http://www.axetec.co.uk/axetec%20guitar%20parts%20spares%20pickups_090.htm (the quad overdrive), but I don’t know if I should try it out or not. What do you think of it?
