I get very confused. I live in Perth Western Australia, and theres 3 Perths around the world. Now I’m old there’s a London in Canada? Why don’t they just make new names?
Like Perth? Or Victoria? Everyplace is guilty of bringing old names from somewhere else. Yes, Ontario contains a London and a Paris. California contains an Ontario. Probably every state in our 50 includes a Rochester (I’m sure of Michigan, Minnesota and New York).
I grew up in Livonia, MI (pretty close to Windsor, Ontario, another original name). Then I found out there was also a Livonia, New York. A quick look at Google shows one in Minnesota as well. The origin of this name appears to be “Baltica,” what are now known as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
How about New York itself? It sure made out better than its namesake…
Its a little soon to say that John. York (england) has a good thousand years plus head start on New York ( america). A couple of Hundread years of notoritiy is a blip in the York time line.

I live in Exeter, used to live in Reading and before that Lancaster, London and Bristol, all in england. Not in Canada, USA, AUS, Kirbati and Jamaica.
Although all those places do have towns of those names respectivly.
