I just returned from a ride at Roman Nose State Park in OK, and just like at many rock climbing venues where there is a crowd at the base wondering why climbers do what they do, there was a multitude of people at the trailhead that just don’t fully get what I’m doing. Since I had to answer similiar questions before I was ready for - “Why do you ride such a difficult cycle on such hard terrain?” My answer - I’m not looking for the path of least resistance for that can be found on the couch, but rather I seek my own personal path of greatest resistance. When I see a section of trail that I fear I can’t ride, but chose to anyway and much to my own surprise make it, the resulting laugh is not about conquering the trail for you never own the earth, Mother Earth owns you. That is simply my spirit rejoicing in its victory over the demons of doubt, and no matter my failed attempts or dwindling abilities later on the fact will always remain a victory occurred there.
Simple answer: because it’s fun
Reason: it’s a challenge, it’s normally very solitary, so there’s no one to see you mess up, and you can be as loud and celebratory as you want when you fall on a certain part, and you get back up, go back, and do it again, and get it.
When you fall on a certain part? I normally clutch the certain part, cross my eyes and groan, rather than rush to do it again.
I think the opening post was meant to be a statement of philosophy rather than a question.
My answer to why do I Muni, or more widely, why do I uni?
Er… why do anything. It’s fun. I enjoy it. Er…
Lady to jazz musician, “Tell me, I’ve always wondered: what exactly does swing mean?”
Jazz musician to lady: “Lady, if you gotta ask, you don’t got it.”
I’m assuming you know what I mean, but, since I can’t tell just through text, and for the benefit of the people who really don’t get it: I meant a certain part of the trail
I like unicycling, the woods, and I need exercise to be healthy and retain my sanity (what of it remains ).
not much
I muni because it’s more fun than running. It’s much easier to motivate myself to go out muni’ing than running, and I’d always do one of the two to keep in shape. I like being able to run farther than all my friends.
Cecause i cant think of one thing that i would rather do in the mountains.
To me the most fufilling experience is reaching the summit of a trail and looking out at the mountain that you have just conquered, and knowing that you made it there with your determintion and strength.
I also enjoy when mtn. bikers yell out “holy f**k did you see that kid?!”
The painting is by Miro. I think there is definitely a reference to a unicycle.
“Not I,” said the duck is a famous passage about shirking responsibilty from a frequently retold epic called The Little Red Hen. I put it in my title as a not very direct reminder of our civic responsibility to promote unicycling awareness."
I also like how the duck sucks responsibility.
haha, i can make out a uni in podzol’s avatar.
Too late for an edit.
The duck ducks responsibility.
Sorry!
because thats the terain i have to ride
cause chicks dig scars
ha, the truth stuns us all
why do you Muni?
Because I can’t do trials!
MUni is like hiking on one wheel. What could be more fun? It nurtures the soul and the body.
I didn’t spend $500 on a unicycle for nothing!!
