I am pleased to announce that registration for Unicon XII will now begin.
We apologize for the delay, resulting from various changes in age categories,
rules, T-shirt sizes and the like, which were finally finalized on March 12.
JUA Headquarters has asked me to go ahead with registration as soon
as possible.
In as much as possible we ask that everyone register online at:
but if for some reason that is impossible you can download a paper version
of the registration form from:
and airmail or fax it to the address shown on the form, but we strongly prefer that
you register online. For detailed information on Uniocn XII, please visit the official
website at:
And if you have any questions please direct them to Mayumi Sakaino and/or Kevin
Gilbertson at unicycle@unicylcing.org. This is the mailing list is intended specifically for
matters related to managing Unicon XII.
I very much look forward to seeing you in Japan, and hope you will do your best
to bring in other unicyclists from your country or region.
P.S. My role as Convention Chairman has changed, which will be announced
announced very soon. I will not be in charge of registration so please don’t write
me in that regard.

The English version of www.unicon12.com has not been changed. There still are no on-line registration or accomodation links to select. It still says, “Coming Soon.”
Also I still don’t know if the price for accomadation per person is the same for a room with 4 beds and a room with two beds. As 4 bedded rooms appaprently MUST be single sex and I’m going to Unicon with my husband ( also in the Uk team) So I’d rather like to share a two bedded room with him.
Ho HUm, maybe some answers will come soon. I have e-mailed my query on this one to the organisers.
SArah
Has any one else noticed that on the unicon12 disclimer any one under 20 must get the form signed by a parent or guardian!
Don’t know about where you live, but here in UK you are considered old enough to leave home, have a kid, join the army, marry, drink or smoke yourself to death way earlier than 20 WITHOUT a parents permission being needed at all.
Are 19 year old Japanesse still considered children?
I don’t know how it works on the “adult” thing for Japan, but I pointed out the 20 thing, and they told me this was the normal age for Japan.
I think we’re waiting on the online registration until Gilby can do some final tweaks. Nobody has been able to get hold of Gilby for a while so we don’t know what he’s up to.
We must respect the laws of the host country, and this is dictated by the law in Japan.
According to the threads I read about this in the iuf-discuss and unicon12 archives (confirmed by my own research on the Web), the age of majority in Japan is 20. In other words, a person is not considered to legally by an adult in Japan before he or she reaches their 20th birthday. This is why the organizers have imposed the requirement to have a parent sign the UNICON XII release if the registrant is under 20.
In spite of the most recent posts to the contrary, the English language version of the UNICON XII Web page still has not changed. The home page still says, “REGISTRATION IS COMING SOON!” The registration page still does not have any links to on-line registration forms and the accomodations page still has no way to reserve a bed.

I’ve tried to get hold of him several times with no success, as we are of
course eager to have registration move ahead. Let’s hope it will not take
much longer.

The online registration was updated Sunday to have the latest changes in the registration form, but it is still at the hidden URL that Mayumi changed it to when registration was prematurely announced by Jack. Mayumi has quite a few updates to add to the web site and I assume that she will make those changes and then announce the registration.

I made all the changes Mayumi asked for as soon as she asked them
and completed them on March 12. Registration was not prematurely
announced – the JUA requested that it be announced. Since you
Mayumi have not been using unicon@unicycling.org to communicate,
the official medium for communicating on Unicon management matters,
none of us (some IUF officers) had a way to know what was going on
To prevent such problems I would like to repeat my request, which was also
officially made by the JUA on iuf-discuss, that all matters related to Unicon
management be communicated through unicon@unicycling.org.
Thank you for your cooperation in getting the form online.

Mayumi will not announce registration - this is my job (the last one in my
former role) and it has alreday been done. All that needs to be done now is for
you to let us know that the technical problems have been solved so that
registration can begin.
