Ankle area protection

I have been getting hit in ankle area by unicycle during unplanned front dismounts sometimes, causing bruising. Anybody have ankle area protection recommendations?

I use light hiking boots, mainly for better protection against ankle twisting, but these of course should also protect the ankle against whatever else.

A bit of drawback of these boots is, that i need to be careful that the shoes dont scrap against the cranks.

I experience similar issues, particularly with 150mm cranks. Never really liked wearing High Tops, but I ordered a pair of these:

Pleasantly surprised at how effective they are - round plastic caps to protect your ankle bones embedded in padded fabric - they just slip on and off, not cumbersome in the least.

I use shoes with ankle protection. It’s good and the shoes are very light.

I had the same problem when I was starting to ride - I would UPD off the front, and the saddle handle would come hammering down from behind me and smash into my ankle bone. Over and over. Sometimes I had to stop riding for a while. The ankle guards worked!

But then the problem just stopped happening - maybe my dismounts got more controlled as I got better at recognizing that it was time to bail out - and I quit wearing them. I can’t remember the last time I bashed my ankle like that, it’s been years and years. So hopefully you have a temporary situation, needing a temporary solution…

When riding freewheel I find that I drop the uni and step off the front only for the saddle to come down and whack the ankle bone that sticks out.

I cut a small piece of closed foam / packing foam to the shape of my trainer and just tuck it into my sock which I find stops it.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I ended up purchasing some G-Form Ankle Guards (wasn’t able to find my size for some of the suggestions above). We will see how they work out.

I used Converse “high top” shoes. I got clocked in the ankle by my crank … glad I was wearing those yesterday.
