The GD’s taught hundreds of kids how to unicycle. My kids are currently in it. The same person, Jon Cahill (seen in this video), has lead the group since its founding in 1981 and it is still doing it today. In fact, they will be in a parade today and will be in the NYC Columbus Day parade in October. The group has grown to over 150 kids from 3rd to 12th grade. Mr Cahill hasn’t changed that much with the exception of a few gray hairs.
This school was torn down in the past month and a new school is being finished with space for the GDs to continue. The last performance I saw was in this same gym during the celebration of the school closing.
One thing I noticed that is different is no one is wearing pads or a helmet. Now a GD can’t even look at a unicycle without the proper gear on.
I know there are some former GD’s on the forum that would enjoy seeing this classic.
