I have never unicycled but I think it might be worth getting a decent bit of kit so it lasts. I am looking mainly to do tricks and short distance riding, so the 20" sounds about right…I like the look of the Qu-ax profi 20" but would it be worth saving for a Nimbus? Thoughts please
Anyone?
Hello Monowheel,
I’m not very qualified to give advice, but here’s a little anyway.
From what I have read here in the last couple of months, people will probably tell you to get a 20" unicycle to learn on… one that is not outrageously expensive. Then when you get the hang of it you will have a better idea what you want to get next.
It seems that once you learn, you almost immediately want another unicycle.
I started on a 20" Torker LX. In 3 months, I thought I needed a 24" and had to have it.
There’s a start on some answers for you.
I’m sure someone else will come around with some more specific advice before long.
Happy Unicycling!
PS -
Then they might tell you, if you are interested in distance at all, the 20" will not be adequate, so you might go with a 24"
I read one post not too long ago (maybe GILD wrote it) that said if you were less than 6ft tall, get a 20" for learning, and if you are over 6ft get a 24".
Personally, I like the 24" better, but the 20" was much better to get started on for me. I’m 5’7".
Hope that helps a little.
Thanks mate! I reckon I too will catch the unicycle bug and end up getting a few different ones. The 20 sounds like it should be sufficient to start with, but no doubt I will end up getting a 24. Thanks for the advice.
I am 5’10 and I learned on a 24" trainer uni. I was very happy to learn on the 24" because I felt that the extra 2" in height helped my balance. Also, I was happy to have a bigger wheel so I could ride around a little faster.
IMO, a cheap unicycle is just fine until your riding exceeds its durability, which may take a while. And then you have a cheap loaner for people when you buy a nicer uni. Just make sure you get one with a long enough seat post (you can always hack off the bottom), and make sure you do not get one with a “classic” seat. It’ll leave you raw and hurting.
I jumped into a KH 24 right off the bat. Not saying you should but why buy two when you can get one? I just got the one I wanted to be my ultimate uni and learned on it. I do have 2 KH 24’s but I bought the second one because I got a really good deal on it. Just my 2 cents.
Hi monowheel,
If you are looking to do tricks and mostly short riding then i would say to stay on the 20in. and save up for the nimbus. Thats what i have and its ten times easier to do tricks than a 24 and also the nimbus trials is what i would recommend and its only about $320.
Howdy. You’ll get more advise if you post unicycling questions in the Rec.Sports.Unicycling forum. More people look there. Just Conversation is for chatting about whatever.
kl cheers
Only $320! Lol, thanks for the advice!
