Adobe Products

Does anybody else out there use Adobe products, more specifically Dreamweaver and Flash. It seems (to me at least) that ever since Adobe took over Macromedia that both these programs have got worse. Firstly I have no problem at all with other programs Adobe have, I like and use photoshop (and very infrequently Illustrator and Premiere) and they seem (so far) perfectly stable and workable, something that cannot be said about Dreamweaver or Flash.

Work requires me to use use Dreamweaver on a regular basis, the problem being it constantly freezes/not responds at least a few times everyday and it is hard not to want to send them an email full of angry abuse, except you can’t simply do this as their contact system is also just as annoying.

Now Flash. Is there some reason why all of my older flash work and flash files are non compatible with the latest version? I have loads of work done in previous versions of Flash (before Adobe stole it) and they all used to work fine but now they all refuse to work unless I reinstall an older version just for them.

Has anyone else had any problems with Adobe or any solutions that help work around some of the more annoying failings?

I think Dreamweaver has been pretty consistent for me, and actually CS3 seems to be going faster for me than MX was. This is based on two different computers at two different jobs though.

As far as Flash goes…my only experience was with Flash 4 on my old home computer and I had no problems with it. Actually, I did use Flash MX a few times at an old job to create a few xml driven flash galleries, and besides the interface changing and Actionscript changing…it responded pretty much the same. Are you sure Flash CS3 does not support old .fla files? Do you know what the cut off is?

Not too sure about the cut off point, the last version I used before Adobe took it over was Flash MX, so most of my work was updated and is saved in that but whenever I try and load any of these files into Flash CS3 it just doesn’t let me. I would have thought some backwards compatability would have been possible though.

I’ve had Dreamweaver freeze up on me once or twice, but otherwise mine works fine. This is CS3 on a Mac. I seemed to have more issues with previous versions on the PC.

As for Flash I don’t know enough to comment, other than I’ve dabbled with it a bit and it has always worked better than me (trying to figure things out).

For further assistance you might want to mention your software versions, platform and hardware, etc., which are normally the first things you want to share when having technical issues. Your Dreamweaver installation might have one or more little support files missing or corrupt, or similar issues to make it unstable, for instance.

Thats very possible.

The first two times when I installed Premiere CS3, It kept messing up on a few files which made it so I couldnt use .avi files.

I guess you get what you pay for.

The road had a few potholes, but they got filled. :stuck_out_tongue:

I actually have a copy of adobe photoshop, and two cds of Cubase, but I find torrents to be more secure. I cant scratch a torrent. The real copies are like backups. It works for me, specially with how many comps I go through and how many times I end up installing things, my cds, even with great care, start to get worn and stop working.

Like one of my cubase cds, has no scratches on it, or dents, it looks brand new, but the program cant install from it.

So far today I have suffered no Dreamweaver crashes (tempting fate saying that I know). Perhaps I was just having an unlucky day yesterday, or perhaps it is the fact that I run photoshop, numerous firefox windows/tabs and other bits all the same time that just slows everything down.

No one else noticed/experienced the flash backwards compatabilty issue though no?

I haven’t used the latest version of Flash, but when using Flash MX to load my Flash 4 files it worked fine. Those are both rather old versions though.

As for the Dreamweaver thing…sometimes it goes slow for me if the server is going slow. Depending on the way your company has set up its servers…Dev servers can be pretty slow and Dreamweaver does checkbacks every now and then and there is a lot of communication going between the dev server and dreamweaver. That combined with a lot of apps opened will probably slow your computer down a lot.

If I am ever in a rush and need to make an edit directly to prod asap, I usually just open the file up in notepad because it is infinitely faster as I am sure you are aware.
