I’ve just been thinking about how I’m going to set up the Australian unicycling newsletter and I thought it might be good to use Adobe Acrobat. It seems good for that sort of thing…but how do you write documents with it? Do I need to download something else?
Also, is it possible to put text alongside photos using Word without using columns or text boxes?

You need Adobe Acrobat. The version you probably have is Adobe Acrobat Reader, which as the name suggests, only reads pdf files.
Adobe Acrobat is a commercial piece of software, you need to buy it. Once you’ve got it, it’s pretty simple to use, it installs a “printer” driver so that you can write pdf files from any application you can print from.

Oh, and for MS Word:
Right click the picture>Format Picture.
Click on the Layout tab:
Then click Square, and set the Horizontal alignment to either Left or Right, depending on which side you want the picture to be on.
(This is for MS Word 2000, it may be slightly different in other versions)

Ghostview, which I believe is now freeware, will produce pdf format from PostScript. I don’t know if Word produces PostScript output or not.
It will if you “install” a postscript printer such as an Apple printer and tell it to output to a file.

One more thing…
In the picture that I’ve attached it shows a tight wrapping style where the picture is on a strange angle. I thought all pictures had to be vertically or horizontally orietated rectangles. How would you go about making one on a strange angle. Does that mean that you could have curved boundaries to a picture?

When I say a curved boundary I mean could the text follow the edge of the people in this photo instead of the rectangular edge of the whole picture as it is now?
