It’s time for me to bite the bullet and start learning one footed skills. As all
my unicycles have rounded crowns and I’m desperately trying not to buy another
one (sorry Roger) I’m thinking of ways to add a bit of grip to said crown.
So far my main idea is to glue a small section of tyre to either side of the
crown. Just wondering if anyone else has done this, how they did it and if it
was any good.
I learnt to ride one-footed, and still ride one-footed, on a uni with a rounded
crown. Initially I wrapped a bit of old tyre tube around the bit of the crown
where my foot rested, just to stop it slipping off. After a while, it actually
became annoying and I just learnt to hold my foot in the right spot. I guess it
depends a lot on what type of grip your shoes have. My current shoes are very
rubbery and don’t slip on the chromed crown.

Use a jubilee clip on the crown. It is best if you can cover it with insulation
tape to protect yourself.

Try grip tape (it’s like glass paper with a very strong self adhesive backing)
that skate boarders use.

Neil,
Try scrounging an offcut. Worked for me - got a 2-3 inch strip that was enough
for both crowns on my uni and a spare set for when they rub off. Saved me paying
UKP5 for a roll that would’ve been overkill.
Regards, Mark.
