Abba

Since Treepotato started The Beatles. I only thought of this on my way home from work. Is there anyone who is a ABBA fan too besides a Beatles Fan. I grew up in the 1970’s and listening to the Super Sweedish Sounds of them. Is there any favorite song/s of them you like. For me it’s Endless. I love playing ABBA songs on my Guitars. I got 3 Guitars. 2 Acoustic’s (one is a 12 String Guitar)and 1 Electric guitar. Most Favorite to play on my Guitar is Waterloo, I had a Dream, (12 String Guitar to play on) Mamma Mia, Fernando (Again 12 String Guitar to play on) and Ring Ring.
Anyone is a ABBA fan besides me. I still love them 'til they disband. I got all their Records and CD’s. Even some Video’s on them too.

Re: Abba

not the kinda thing u’d likely to get me to admit to in public ( ) but since we’re all friends here…
i used to listen to my brothers abba records and can clearly remember spending sunday afternoons under a set of headphones listening thru their albums and reading asterix books incidently
well, untill that one fatefull day i walked into a shop running a record sale and picked up a copy of DEEP PURPLE’s ‘FIREBALL’
life hasn’t been the same since…

I was never a big Abba fan, but there is a teeny-bopper girl group called Play that does a lot of covers of their stuff. My daughter was into them for a while so we wound up listening to them constantly. Oy!

There’s a show on broadway now called, Mamma Mia based on the songs of Abba. Another Oy!

Yeah Raphael, Mamma Mia is still playing here in Australia. Currently in Sydney NSW 'til October 2003 before moving to Brisbane Qld in the New Year in 2004. I know Bjorn Ulvaeus was in Melbourne in 2001 for the Auditions and the Grand Opening of Mamma Mia. I know I haven’t seen it but they Smashing at the Box Office here. Shame about the Musical “Chess” wasn’t a hit in Australia. But I know it’s coming back to try again for the Third time. I Hope.

David.

Re: Throbbing Gristle

at least u can look forward to ‘JERRY SPRINGER - THE OPERA’
sorry, i dont have a link

but raphael, it’s the root of so much of our present pop music
just (musically) far, far superior
abba is roots, man!
sad about all the silver lames that had to die to make their costumes…

Re: Re: Throbbing Gristle

A colleague of mine actually saw this while on vacation in Scotland. He said it was pretty good.

He didn’t say how the haggis was, though.

Oh Mama Mia, SOS! I can’t get these songs out of my head. Make it stop. Their songs are too disco for me and I revolt against all things disco. I only managed to survive the disco years by listening to music by bands like Blue Oyster Cult, Queen, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Blue Oyster Cult. ABBA just brings back bad memories. All I can say about ABBA is no thanks for the music. So long. And no, I am not a dancing queen.

Have you heard of the ‘Bee Gees’ John. I love them. Staying Alive And You should be Dancing.

David.

There is also a teeny-bopper group called the A-Teens that does Abba covers. My daughter has at least one of their CDs. The funniest part is their surprise when the parents already know all the words.

what is this dave?
aversion therapy?
i was with u on abba but the bee gees?
u’ll be on about michael bolton in a moment!?!

i cannot think of a sweeter revenge on the generation that gave us boy-bands…
:sunglasses:

Oh, now you’re just taunting me.
I hold the Bee Gees responsible for Saturday Night Feaver and all that disco stuff. Bad Bee Gees.

During the disco years I also listened to Styx. One of the few albums that I owned was “The Grand Illusion” and I had the single with the song “Renegade”. I spent a lot of time in front of the record player listening to them. In fact, I just put the album on right now. Ah… One of these days I’m going to have to get “The Grand Ilusion” on CD so I don’t have to flip it over half way through.

dont u think we’re missing out on that moment of reflection halfway thru an album that we had with flipping it over?
it gave u a moment to really appreciate what u’ve just been listening to and get ready for the second half
the two sides of an album could also be the next best thing to two completely seperate musical directions
saying ‘the first hald of the cd…’ just isn’t quite the same

or am i on my own here?

No Dave I hate Michael Bolton. Can’t stand him. I just tease John on the disco feeling on the Bee Gees. I just listen to Abba this morning and after listening to the Super Trouper Album. I just had to grab my guitar and my Abba Song book to play along.
I would be at work today but I had a sore throat and my boss told me to stayed home until you are better. So I just listen to Abba this morning and it was sooooooooo wonderful. Gee I can pick out tunes well on my guitar. But I HATE Michael Bolton.

David.

kewl boss!

can u record yourself and post that somewhere?

I’ll see one day Dave and I will not let U down. I hope to get myself a new or refurbish my computer one day so I can have a new Graphic’s card with TV output and intergrade AV input so I can Record some Video/s and Audio files to this site and a few others too like my website for example into the future. I’ll keep everyone posted especially U mate Dave. Thanks for the Suggestions, I’ll try one day.

David

No, you’re not on your own here. I do happen to enjoy being interrupted while drinking a nice pint in musical bliss to have it all stop with a little pop as the needle lifts up off the record signaling you that it is time to put the beer down and flip the record over.

not even in the event that your musical bliss has prevented u from replenishing said beer would u nostalgically long for the popping needle freeing you from your own enjoyment to go and get that beer?

ok, to each his own

How about this one:

“If you like my body
And you think I’m sexy,
All you gotta do is call!”

Personally, I’m a fan of Abba. They can’t even compare with today’s music, like Backstreet Boys or Britney Spears, but Abba is okay, too.
Has anyone ever heard Abba Gold in Spanish? I really like the version of ‘Fernando’ on that album.

No Paco I haven’t heard of Abba Gold in Spanish. But anyone does, let Paco know. I agree with you about today’s music. But I do like some of the New Artist/s of bringing back of the Modern Pop music because I only read in a magazine that Pop music is now dead. To me that’s crap. They just want these so called Techno-Music. (Rap) I hate Rap music since it started in the late 1980’s. So paco, your not alone here. I’m on your side. I like Rod Stewart too.
