I wouldn’t bring anything…I would meditate.
james your a liar…you would so bring a rubiks cube=P
hmmm, perhaps.
pffff. i spend my entire summer in the woods. May till august.
A shotgun, a case of shells, two cases of beer, and a lawn chair. Makes for a great vacation, be it in the forest, the tundra, heck even your gramma’s house.
two cases of beer make a vacation?
some sort of intoxicant or narcotic. trip out on acid and run around in the wild. never done acid and never will probably, but if i couldnt have food or water then chances are i’d be expecting to die so no worries.
i’ld bring survivorman (that guy on the disc. channel). he’s good at not dieing in the course of a week…or maybe he’ld eat me and use my skin as a blanket. that would definatly spike his ratings, “tonight on survivorman, Les Stroud kills and eats Josh.” would you watch that?
Years ago, I did three weeks solo on an uninhabited island in Lake Michigan. I intended to stay a week, but the weather turned and the fishing boats that I hired to take me and pick me up couldn’t get back out to the island for another two weeks.
I rationed my food, ran out of chapstick (in a freezing rainy october, bad news), found a hunter’s stash of canned goods and cheap wiskey.
I brought
- 2 large dogs (Milton was just a puppy on that trip. He found a dead loon and rolled on it and stunk the whole time. )
- 1 very good book that was long and good for me to read.
- A journal.
- A fancy $300 Northface goretex mountain light jacket which was useless after 2 days of drizzle. I switched to a $3 yellow rubber rain coat and wore that the rest of the trip. Glad I brought both. Wish I had brought rain pants. I still have t he rubber coat and use it in the field frequently. Best $3 I ever spent!
- 2 way radio (before the days of cell phones, this trip was)
- oil paints and canvas boards.
- Food, tarp, 4 season tent, sleeping bag for me, sleeping bag for the dogs.
It was a long time to be without ANY human contact except hearing the marine weather forcast from Manitowoc Wisconsin each morning. I am better for the experience.
man, that sounds like a lot of fun…I want to do somethin like that.
No. A lawn chair makes a vacation. The gun and beer gives you something to do in the chair.
Podzol, can I ask why you did that week in the woods thing? I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just wondering why you’d think to do something like that.
Hey punk. You stay away from my gramma’s house.
I’ve always wanted to get to Isle Royale but so far it hasn’t happened. Maybe someday…
B-b-b-but she offered to bake me a pie if I got rid of all the rodents that keep stealing food from her feathered friends!
Here’s the short answer:
I lived the monastic life for a a year and a half and wanted to test my chops on ‘extreme’ solitude. I got more than I bargained for, but loved it. I’d do it again at the drop of a hat if I didn’t have the responsibilities I have at present!
3 weeks really isn’t that long. I;d like to try a year. Inside, I’m a hermit. I’ll do it someday when Bear is all grown and independent.
