I was looking at the IBM Patent Server (http://www.patents.ibm.com/ibm.html) and
found that in 1995 someone patented a “foot-propelled vehicle”, that is
basically a unicycle with 3 or 4 small wheels at the end of spider-like legs.
The authors say that they invented it because “this structure of unicycle is
well-known and can no longer attract people to ride.” This looks about as useful
as the skate bike, but because it is so different I threw together a page with
the scanned patent documents, including drawings at http://www.unicycling.org/unicycling/standuni/.
For those of you who tried the page and couldn’t get anything, try again now.
