Generally speaking I think Torker CX’s get a bad rap. I’ve put endless hours on my Torker 20" CX, sent it tumbling too many times to count and it is holding up great. Yes the seat is like a contoured brick but of course I don’t go cross country on it. I thought the quality was good enough for the money that I jumped on the chance to get a used 24" Torker CX for the open road. Again, the 24" seems like it will last indefinately. The only rule is I don’t do drops. They aren’t made for that so I don’t do them. But riding around town has convinced me their saddles are horrible for any more than 10 minutes worth of steady riding.
With that said, I’ve found something worse. The saddle on my used 28" Sun is a wolf in sheeps clothing. It doesn’t look bad. It doesn’t feel bad upon inspection. But the other day I rode it for less than a mile and a half and I couldn’t stand much more. The kicker is that it hurt to pee that night. The next day I was fine so I know it was the saddle.
So now I’m going to buy not one, but two upgrade saddles. I will get a Kris Holm FreeRide saddle and a Nimbus Gell saddle. One for my Sun 28" and one for my Torker 20". Whichever I like the best will be purchased again for my Schwinn Giraffe when I get it road worthy.
Have you used the new Nimbus Gel that has the new KH base? I have seen a lot of people putting down the Nimbus gel, and it makes me wonder if they are comparing it to the new version or the old version. I’m looking for a new seat at some point, and I’d like to know how the new seats compare.
Some people do like the Nimbus Gel more than the KH Freeride. I own both, and even though I’ve only gone distances with the KH Freeride, I haven’t had any soreness issues when using the Nimbus Gel. I think buying both saddles is a good idea if that’s an option.
And I do agree, the lower-end Torkers and Suns are good quality unicycles that easily serve their purposes. I find it odd when someone asks about them for road riding, and then everyone starts to suggest a Nimbus with ISIS cranks, which is overkill IMO.
I currently have a Nimbus Gel with 2009 KH base (on a 24" MUni), a 2010 KH street (20" trials), and an older KH freeride (29" MUni). The Nimbus may have the same base as the new KH saddle but the foam really does have much more curve to it. It is firmer than the old KH freeride but not as firm as the KH street. I don’t find the Nimbus especially uncomfortable but I prefer the KH freeride for longer periods in the saddle.

honestly for any kind of distance… i think… the nimbus gel is just terrible unless shaved.
freeride and street have practically flat foams. the nimbus is just toooo curved.
the nimbus saddle definitely has a ton of unnecessary foam on the front part, which is mostly what i don’t like about it…it pushes on my junk way too much for any comfort
