I know near to nothing about native american culture so my following comments may be inaccurate.
Sometimes I wonder if “harmony with nature” in some societies is not a romantic misinterpretation. There sure were profound interactions even at religious level, and men were part of some ecosystem equilibrium but this they sometime changed profoundly.
I suspect also that natives american cultures were extremely diverse and some were noted warmongers with an attested love for torture … for sure this is absolutely no justification for their destruction. But the consequences could teach us a lesson or two about categorizing others as “evil”.
