I have just been attending a Tianjin International Comic Art Festival in
China. It was a great experience, so many good clowns and other artists.

I was competing with my balloon act some of you might have seen at NUC in
Seattle. I got at 2nd place.

There was a Chinese act with ultimate wheel, see them at:

They had some nice idears, and they had inveted a new type unicycle!! Take
a look at this: <http://www.unicykel.com/china/IMG_7084.jpg>

Congratulations! The winning act must have been quite amazing to be voted
#1!

(I fixed the path to the second picture) Those are fascinating unicycles,
including the “money” ultimates! How did that “hoop” one work? It looks
like a metal ring with little or no traction. Definitely very visual! If
used in a typical Chinese acrobatic show, I can see guys diving through it
as the rider passes by…

Congratulations!

Those are cool unis. It’s like wheel walking built right in! I’ll bet they
were doing some acrobatics through those hoop-wheels, no?

can give me more info on THIS Basil King please email

The winning act was really cool. It was a guy from France doing an ostrich
imitation, see him here: http://www.unicykel.com/china/IMG_7037.jpg

The unicyclists had also an ultimate made of sticks, so instead of a ring
or wheel where a lot of sticks coming out. They was not using any tyre on
the unis, that’s why there is the black matt on the stage.

The big wheel thing was used to ride through. I never got a chance to see
it close up, but there must have been some kind of transfer from the
pedals to drive the ring round.

See ya Lars

That hoop unicycle is really cool and probably difficult to ride. But it
did get me thinking… Imagine a tandem unicycle with one rider inside the
wheel (a monocycle) and the second rider on top of the monocycle with a
contraption similar to what is used on that hoop unicycle. It would be
interesting and difficult to ride for the rider on top.

This is very interesting. Has anyone ever built anything like it? The
details are not too clear to me…

Nest time I go to China (which is often) I will try to go to Tianjin and
get together with them. Lars, please give me contact info if you have it.
