7075 MUni Ride Test

I took my first ride on the new 7075 aluminum MUni on Sunday 5/7/00. The lighter
weight 13.1 Lb (a reduction of about 4.5 Lbs) setup is much easier to ride and
of course a blessing on antigravity stuff. The first log I came to was about a
12" jump. I rode upto it turned sideways, yanked the saddle and was hoping to
land on top. Instead I cleared the top and landed on the other side. A lighter
MUni is easier to bring with you and tucks faster allowing greater heights to be
cleaned. My goal was to come in at about 12 Lbs so more tweaking will be
required. I think it is possible. I’m working out a new seat design to drop some
weight there. Additionally, IRC has come out with a tubeless downhill rim and
tire setup that I hope will be lighter than the 2.3" DH tire w/tube. I don’t
have any stats on that product yet. I’m also thinking about a titanium axle and
a slimmer hub with lighter spokes. For now I just need to beat the frame to see
if and where it bleeds. Any troubles with stress cracks should flush out in
about 2 months given I’m riding about 5 times a week. Sunday’s run was hot to
the tune of 70 ozs of water. That’s all for now. Happy trails.

What is your base muni that you are comparing the weight savings to?

Re: 7075 MUni Ride Test

The base 26" MUni was my modified Schwinn weighing in at around 17.5 Lbs. The
flat steel frame was heavy. It served well as the test bed for hub, axle and
disc brake so I can’t be too nasty to it. The lighter MUni hops and jumps much
better. Cya.
