5 yr old launches into abyss!

Here is my son’s progress report.

Total Days: 7
Total time in the Saddle: 8.5 hours
Injuries: None, though one backwards fall
Moral: Extremely High
Problem Area(s): He tends to look at the ground, but it’s getting better
New Progress: Launches into the abyss

Yesterday my son did really well and made some great progress. The
weather was beautiful so I took the afternoon off and went home to Uni
and help him Uni. We went to the school for some basic spotting. My wife
and I dual spotted him which went so, so. He went around the quarter
mile track one time and he rode a bit more on the playground. We found
two large piles of Bears scat on the playground and it was fairly fresh
(zowie). Uni-ing with Bears- oh boy…

Later in the day he was practicing on the deck and I noticed he was
consistently getting his balance. So I held out my arms and asked if he
wanted to ride over to me. He let go of the railing, threw his arms up
in the air and rode right to me! Yep, about six feet! He did this about
5 times during his practice. Then he asked if he could ride in the
street with me spotting him. So, we went out to the road and he wanted
to go around the block (1/3 mile) and he did that twice! At a couple
points during the ride he would lightly hold on to my hand.

He’s making some serious progress and he’s really proud of himself- he
should be!

Cheers,

Jason

5 yr old launches into abyss!

Jeeeeeez! When I was five years old, I thought I was hot 'cause I could ride a tricycle…!

Given any thought to starting CircusAlaska, Jason? Sounds like you’ve got some prodigies there!

{way off topic, but}

Your mention of bear scat, well… I have to tell ya, since there are far fewer here (where I am) who’ll “get it”… there’s a canned semi-alcoholic drink available in convenience stores here called “SKAT”. :astonished:
No, I haven’t tried it.

Anything is possible. I’m going to do a progress post with some pics
of him riding this weekend. Yesterday he started soloing real well, and
he rode from me to his sister (about 10 feet) a couple of times.

Cheers,

Jason

Re: Re: 5 yr old launches into abyss!

Please do- I’m using your son to pace learning to wheel walk, and am trying to put as much practice in as he; it will be interesting to see how far behind I fall (literaly)! His progress is insperational!
