Mount with your foot at the lowest point. Sit with your back straight. Keep all your weight on the saddle. Look some distance ahead. That’s all you need to know.
There may be some things said in a sentance.
But some other thingss will take a whole book.
Some things expressed in a ‘Your mom’ joke.
Some things expressed in a look.
But don’t let Dan de man determine the length of your prose.
My Name is David.
I am a Telemark Skier.
This will be my second year on the US national team.
I would consider skiing my life.
Unicycling is my alter-ego’s life.
Five sentences is an interesting but highly divisive restriction.
Some writers will be able, by the judicious use of punctuation, of commas, semi-colons, and such, to make their sentences of such lengths, that the restriction will barely affect their ability to communicate difficult and complex ideas to anyone having sufficient time, interest and patience to read their prose, and yet, they may still feel constrained.
Some won’t.
Some may find those five sentences encompass far more than their usual daily intelligible output, and as such they may pad them out with rubbish or repetition.
But do we need a five sentence restriction in order to demonstrate such divisions, or would any written material suggest the same?
Full stop shortage. Sentences rationed heavily by government. Activists protest - succinctly. Book prices fall. Radical factions turn to the semicolon.
The internet allows you to get to know those personalities.
People you have never met become well know to you.
They become friends you have never met.
This is why, at the very moment that I pressed the "Submit" button to start this thread, I already knew that if one person would make the point about it being possible to write very long but grammatically correct sentences, so that the five sentence rule would not necessarily impose brevity on posts, and that they would demonstrate this within the body of their reply, that person would be Naomi.
The tigress had not eaten well for some weeks.
She was very hungry.
She could clearly see danger in the rope that tied the young goat to the tree.
The succulent flesh was far too much for her to ignore.
Disregarding the possible trap, she pounced, snapping the rope in a moment, and quickly disappeared back into the night, her flames dimming immediately, but in the forest, the embers of her eyes still watched.
You know, this could be some kind of poetry.
Very weird poetry though.
I don’t think I’m very good at it though.
But what is good?
I shall go ponder that.
Awesome alliteration.
I tried to do some of my own.
I gave up, cried, and went home.
Everyone laughed at my poem.
Now I’m really deep down in the doldrums.
So what is the point of this thread?
Is it sorta like MR?
But you can only use five sentances?
Or is there really a point to it?
I don’t really understand.
I cant write a poem to save my life.
Only with a great deal of time.
Thinking of one causes me great strife.
Oh, look, I made a rhyme!
This thread is going nowhere fast, but that’s okay with me, for I belive it will positivly increase my vocabulary and help my spelling, and also some of the other people’s spelling and grammer, for I have noticed a great disregard for legible typing (which I never thought could be unlegible), and as a result, the country has broken out in an epidemic of gang viloence and vandalism (not really), so I have pleged myself to the cause of grammaticly correct typing, and my pledge will end whenever I am caught red handed in the act of incorrect grammer myself, though I’m sure it will be something minimal and my post will still be legible, and if that’s the case then I will not have broken the spirit of my pledge and I will continue to fight against the forces of bad grammer (even though I sure I misuesed the comma plenty of times in the last sentence).
Wait a minute.
You typed something that is overflowing with mistakes.
And this thing you’re typing happens to be about spelling/grammar mistakes?
The word unlegible is unpossible.
No one likes my poem.
I really liked the idea of this thread and wanted to be part of it.
I was hoping that I could come up with a clever idea and express it all in the 5 sentences. Unfortunately, at this time, I’m at a loss for what to write about.
Maybe if I sleep on the idea, I’ll come up with something tomorrow morning.
Until then, good night all.
