42 New Rider

Hey everyone I’ve been ridding for about 2 months now and I’m amazed at how out of shape I was. I used to only make it down the street maybe 30 yards. Now I can do the entire block without stopping. I know you century dudes are laughing right about now. LOL I’m hoping to do a little off road and I’m saving up for my first Muni. There is a nice soft grassy place I’m going to hit first.I’ve been curious as to what setup a Noob Munier should get. Any help is appreciated. I really like the KH24 so far.Maybe put some Durillium petals on.The rest I would leave stock. Tyre suggestions would be great.

Peace,

Hello and welcome! No, nobody’s laughing. We’ve all been where you are today. Even people starting out in good shape, because beginning riders tend to waste so much energy.

I remember riding on the “lumpy” grass! And then a patch of dirt… woah! I just made it over that little root! Hearing from beginning riders always brings back fond memories.

Sorry I don’t have MUni suggestions. I’ll leave that to the others.

That’s one more of us and one less of them.

Welcome to the forum DhEXED, it’s good to have you.

Cool!

Thanks guys! I’m trying to brings some friends over to the “Light Side”.
Mwahahahaaa.I don’t see any Unicycles around here in McKinney but I haven’t checked the form out totally yet. It would be great to find another Uninut out here. I’m totally hooked and driving my wife a little nutty with all the Uni talk.

Thanks for the warm reception,
DhEXED

Hey DhEXED !

Where is McKinney, Texas?

I’m just west of Lake Charles, Louisiana about 20 minutes from the Texas border.

Howdy Neighbor!

Im about 30min north of Dallas.I love Louisiana.Had a friend that lived in Breaux Bridge and I have some family in New Orleans.

I’m glad you found Uni cycling. I’m having a ball.

Peace,
DhEXED

That happens.

Any chance of the little lady having a go herself?

Have you looked at the “map” button at the top of the page? There are eight unicyclists listed in the Dallas area.

Scott

I live in Irving. There are quite a few unicyclists in the area, but they’re hard to find. If you’re on Facebook, look up the Dallas Unicycle Club. There’s also the July 4th parade coming up, which should attract quite a few riders.

I ride up in the North Garland area on some local trails. I’ve got a Schwinn 20" and 24", Torker DX 24", Torker LX 26", and a Qu-Ax Cross 29". I’m 50 years old ride mainly on weekends when time/weather permit. Regarding muni equipment, the Torker DX 24" is stock (2008 model) and my selection for best overall (with respect to quality/price point). The Torker LX 26" has a different seat (Torker freestyle seat, http://seriousjuggling.com/unicycle-parts.htm), a WTB Stout tire (http://www.unicycle.com/sale-items/wtb-26-x-2-3-stout-tire.html/), new cranks (150’s), and redline pedals (replaced the plastic stock model). The stock LX tire is fine for pavement but I did not like the feel on the trails. The stock seat on the LX has virtually no side padding which made it very uncomfortable for any distance, and the stock pedals were just too slick. I have bought unicycles through unicycle.com (Torker DX 24"), seriousjuggling.com (Torker LX 26"), and through municycle.com (Qu-Ax Cross 29"). I picked up my Schwinn’s at a garage sale (20"), and through Richardson Bike Mart (24"). Locally (since you’re in McKinney), Richardson Bike Mart (at Campbell and Plano) has some unicycles (about a dozen on display last time I was there).

Shes not into it at all. She just says “have you seen me try to walk” I love her but she is a littl bit of a clutz. LOL

I think Im settling in on a Nimbus 24" muni. I drool at the KH Munis but not ready to commit that much cash. I’m wondering If I should go with a 20’ to learn on because my daughter took over my Torker 20" LX.

I currently am on a Nimbus 2 24" with 125 Moment cranks.

Thanks for all the help. If Im in town for the 4th Ill totally be there for the event.

Sweet just joined the DUC.

Nice I love this forum.

I would recommend the 24. I have the Torker DX 24 with 150 cranks (that seems to be the right length crank for the trail riding that I do, and I’m 5’10"). Have fun.

Welcome DhEXED!

This is a great place to learn and meet other riders. I am curious about your choice of muni size, as I am dealing with what to get as my second uni. I currently have a Club 24", which has been great so far, but probably not the best for abuse, which I dish out in loads.

If you have a 24 Nimbus 2, why buy a second with the same tire size? It seems most muni riders are riding 26 or 29ers. The 26ers cost almost the same as a 24 muni. Just curious what your motivations are, so I can examine my own. Yes, I am driving myself insane trying to make this decision, but mine will be either a 29 or 36er.

Great job making it around the block! It’s a big world out there, and it’s waiting for you!

I would agree with the 26" as well since you have a 24" Nimbus. I usually take my 24" Torker DX and the 26" Torker LX out when I ride (I have to park and walk through some woods to the area I ride at). I changed the seat on the LX (stock one is not comfortable), put a WTB Stout tire, and Redline pedals. While the uni is not as strong as a pure play muni, it works for what I need (till I taco a rim). I am still looking at getting another muni, either a 26" Nimbus, KH, or Qu-Ax.

Well I was told by a guy that really knows his stuff that a 24" will teach you tech then go to a 26" for ride-ability.He said it can also be a bit intimidating at first to do trails on a Higher Uni. I thought about just getting a different wheel and converting my 24 Cruiser into a Muni. then get a 26" for cruising.AHHHH As it is I have an envelope collecting cash for my next purchase. I hear ya Animal!

Man If I just had an extra $5000.00 I could have everything covered…Maybe?

TY I know that’s where I should start. To many choices.
