32" Maxxis Aspen - is it what 32" unicycles need to become mainstream?

Maybe its the same as in 2015, during the fat bike boom, Schwalbe launched the Jumbo Jim. However, it took forever for it to become available on the open market, as the bicycle industry was supplied for their complete bikes first.

Darn bicyclists. We need these tyres more than they do

Udc USA has been out of stock on 32 oracle frames for some time. I wonder if they will ever be available again. Udc uk has them

Might just be waiting on the right container, but also I can’t imagine anything 32” has really been that popular so they might not have been getting those frames made very often. I’m sure if you ask they’ll be able to tell you when stock is likely to exist.

29”+ is a far more versatile unicycle to own right now, but the Aspen might change that. For anyone who wants to ride anything other than smooth roads, the 32” with NR hasn’t really been a suitable option.

So, tonight I have tried to put a NitghtRider Lite tire on my new Nextie carbon 32er rim… And that’s a really tight fit! I have echoes from the first time I have had to put a NRL on the Braus 36er rim :see_no_evil_monkey:
I have managed to puncture a 29er Aerothan tube and another butyl tube. The first one was a simple test to see how much such a tube can expand - not enough to fill up a 32er tire. The second one, I believe I have punctured it with the tire levers - I could make the tire come into the rim without them :frowning:
So, now I have to find new tubes. Yeah!

Or go tubeless… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I have thought about it. But I don’t want to run a NRL tubeless at 3+ bars

You have to inflate TPU tubes really slow, and make many pauses in the process, when you inflate them for the first time (or in a bigger dimension tyre than before) …even when using them at their specified dimensions. Did you follow that procedure?

“really slow” is not a quantifiable measure. So, I can’t say whether it was really slow
Maybe I pumped too fast, you’re right. It has punctured where the tube is welded. Probably the weakest point :frowning:

www.einradshop.ch packs a notice with TPU tubes that you shouldn‘t use a compressor to inflate the tube. Instead, use a hand (or foot) pump and make 10 strokes, then wait 20 seconds before making the next 10 strokes.
As mentioned, this is only needed for TPU tubes that are inflated for the first time, or used in a wider tyre than before.

Ok, I don’t think I have pumped way faster than that

Well, someone should make an adapter for a unicycle hub to work on these wheels.. It’ll be very expensive and I’m not sure if they would be any good on a uni, but they sure look dope.

An adapter for unis would be nice, I just hope that the decals are easy to remove - B!KE AHEAD COMPOSITES.

Don’t worry, for the uni edition, they will adjust the decal to “UNI AHEAD COMPOSITES” or “NO OTHER WHEEL AHEAD COMPOSITES”:rofl::rofl:

Why not make that “NO TRAINING WHEELS AHEAD (or behind)”?

The decal on the toptube says “The future is big” but obviously too big for this bike. They had to install the stem with a negative angle and the handlebar upside down.

Retail stock is still slowly trickling onto the market.

11 available (at the time of writing) to be shipped from California for all of you folks across the pond:

I have TPU in my bike and my 26er unicycle. I pumped them up with the small compressor I keep in my truck for cycling. Luckily I did not have an issue. I had no idea there was a protocol for inflating them . Although after experiencing butyl tubes exploding on me several times I do have a protocol of inflating. I inflate with intervals of massaging the tire, bouncing it between multiple rounds of inflation then letting it rest before my final inflation to my ideal pressure. I once replaced my 29er tube in the back of my car in the garage then went into the house, while sitting and talking with my mother we heard a loud bang, it was my tube exploding.
