All right, the biggest decision I will have to make in getting a muni is
what wheel size I want. I currently own unicycles with wheel sizes of 20",
24", and 36".
Based on my experience, I know I’d want a muni with at least a 24" wheel.
I just don’t know how to judge if 26" would be too large.
I can tell from the coker if I go too big, I’ll have problems changing
direction, and going slowly if I have to.
Any suggestions?
I’m about 6’ tall, if people tend to judge these things based on a
person’s height.
From what I’ve heard (I have no personal experience with this), is that the 26" is the way to go because it’s rolls over the bumps better. However, with a fat 3" tire, then a 24" is good as the fat tire makes it almost as big as a 26" with a narrower tire.
The outside diameter of a 24 X 3 Gazz is the same size or larger than a
regular 26" tire. It’s pretty big. A 26 X 2.65 Gazz is the size of a
regular 28" tire. I like the 24 X 3, but thought it was pretty heavy, lots
of rotational inertia. I have never ridden a 26 X 3, it must be a monster.
Even though these tires sound pretty big they will be a lot more
responsive and maneuverable than a Coker. I don’t think you will find any
of them to be too large. I would tend toward a 26" wheel though. There is
a wider range of tires to select from and a better chance of finding the
combination you are looking for.

I agree with Gilby. A larger wheel definitely rolls over bumps better.
Though the most commonly 3.0" Gazz is a 24" wheel, it’s actually about 26"
in diameter so you still need lots of room in the uni.
The other advantage of 26" is that you’ll have a world of mountain bike
tires to choose from. Stay with 24" and you will have a much smaller
selection consisting mostly of cheap tires for kids’ bikes, or expensive
tires for specialty bikes.
