24 Hours of Booty - Columbia, MD

There is a 24 hour charity road ride in Columbia, MD (COL) on August 22-23, 2015, called 24 Hours of Booty.

The past three years I have ridden the Charlotte (CLT) and Alanta (ATL) events, but this is the first year I will ride COL. (There is a fourth event in Indianapolis/Butler (IND) campus, which I have not made yet either.)

If any uni riders approximate to the DC area would like to ride I’d love the company.

The charity raises funds for local cancer patients, mostly in the area of patient navigation services … non-medical support services for cancer patients and their families.

Although the ride is a 24 hour event, most people do not ride 24 hours. You can ride one lap or a 100 or whatever.

Since I have not ridden the course in COL yet, I can only tell you what I’ve been told… it is a tad over 2 miles in length and is the flattest of the 4 events. Though the course map suggests it is not THAT flat.

The promoters of the event, are very unicycle friendly. They love us.

You can learn more about the event at http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/site/PageServer?pagename=rides_columbia. The page says the dates are coming soon… the dates are 8/22-23.

There is a $45 registration fee and a minimum $200 fundraising goal. Don’t be too concerned about your ability to raise $200. I discovered that cancer is “personal” for many people… it is everywhere. I have donors that I hardly know that donate $100 every year. Their generosity is amazing, but is also a testimonial to the cause.

I’ve already registered and setup a team: EAST COAST UNICYCLES. I don’t expect anyone to just up and register without some Q&A… This post is just a start of the dialogue.

I will be at the Monster Cross in RVA on 2/22. If any riders at that event are interested in a free COL Booty T from last year’s event, PM me your size. The marketing director will hook you up. BTW, accepting a T-shirt does not imply you will register.

PS: You might have some explaining if/when you tell your significant other you are going to an overnight event called 24 Hours of Booty.

Here’s a short video on 24HoB.

The 3 key people, the little girl, the cyclist, and the doctor are all cancer survivors.

Thanks,

A Ride with a Purpose

Here’s a short clip on 24HoB. There are three real life “actors”… they are all cancer survivors.

Allie Sadoff, the little girl, was really struggling with her fight in 2012… my first year riding for this cause. Today she is cancer free. She LOVES unicycles. As you know, all kids love unicycles. Which makes this event even more special to me… it is a good opportunity to thrill some kid who is actually fighting cancer. If nothing else, it might take their mind off their situation for even a few minutes.

The doctor is an oncologist who works closely with the charity to ensure the patients are getting the services that they need so they can spend their energy fighting the disease, and not all of the other baggage that comes with it.

Team has grown

My team of 1 is now a team of 2. I will not say who… he can disclose if he wants. But thanks for joining!

Charlotte Update

Here’s a little TV segment. I’m on a “morning show” talking about the booty event, photo-bombing other talking heads, and just having a good time.

The CHARLOTTE NC ride is next week but there still is time to register and raise the $400 minimum.

More realistically, the COLUMBIA, MD ride is 8/22-23. We have a team of two uni riders. Can we grow it to three? The minimum fundraising requirement for COL is $200. Easy stuff.

I’m very tempted…

Thanks Greg. What’s holding you back? Love to have you join in the fun.
