There is a 24 hour charity road ride in Columbia, MD (COL) on August 22-23, 2015, called 24 Hours of Booty.
The past three years I have ridden the Charlotte (CLT) and Alanta (ATL) events, but this is the first year I will ride COL. (There is a fourth event in Indianapolis/Butler (IND) campus, which I have not made yet either.)
If any uni riders approximate to the DC area would like to ride I’d love the company.
The charity raises funds for local cancer patients, mostly in the area of patient navigation services … non-medical support services for cancer patients and their families.
Although the ride is a 24 hour event, most people do not ride 24 hours. You can ride one lap or a 100 or whatever.
Since I have not ridden the course in COL yet, I can only tell you what I’ve been told… it is a tad over 2 miles in length and is the flattest of the 4 events. Though the course map suggests it is not THAT flat.
The promoters of the event, are very unicycle friendly. They love us.
You can learn more about the event at http://www.24hoursofbooty.org/site/PageServer?pagename=rides_columbia. The page says the dates are coming soon… the dates are 8/22-23.
There is a $45 registration fee and a minimum $200 fundraising goal. Don’t be too concerned about your ability to raise $200. I discovered that cancer is “personal” for many people… it is everywhere. I have donors that I hardly know that donate $100 every year. Their generosity is amazing, but is also a testimonial to the cause.
I’ve already registered and setup a team: EAST COAST UNICYCLES. I don’t expect anyone to just up and register without some Q&A… This post is just a start of the dialogue.
I will be at the Monster Cross in RVA on 2/22. If any riders at that event are interested in a free COL Booty T from last year’s event, PM me your size. The marketing director will hook you up. BTW, accepting a T-shirt does not imply you will register.
PS: You might have some explaining if/when you tell your significant other you are going to an overnight event called 24 Hours of Booty.
