24" for trials

I will soon be using a 24" qu-ax for muni and trials as my trials is busted and i want a muni more then a new hub and cranks set for it because you can do trials on a 24" but can’t do muni on a 20" but how much height will i loose on a 24" i think that when i get a new hub and crank set for my 20" i will be able to jump even higher as i will be used to use a 24" what do you think?
basically whats a 24" like for trials?
ben

From my experience, I don’t like a 24/26" Muni for trials.

I find it way too heavy, and due to the size of the wheel, you will loose a bit more height off your hops!

Again, it is personal preference as what to use for muni/trials, as it is with crank length, seat post height and tyre pressure.

If it feels good for you, it is good!

Joe,

i use a 19" so the weight change will be hard to get used to but when i get back on it i think i will be a better rider for it :sunglasses: but i does mean i have to learn crank grabs again!!!

If you do that you’ll be one up on me, I still can’t get the hang of grabs on the muni. I just couldn’t pull the blummin’ thing up far enough.

I’ve not tried for ages; now the muni has posh pedals on I don’t really want to whack them into things.

I use a 19" too.
When doing trials on a 24", it seems very heave, but you will get used to that. When going back to the 19", it will feel much better (bouncy tyre, lighter and move manoeuvrable).

Also, cranks/pedal grabs are not too hard on a 24"

Crank grabbing onto the same object (or at least getting the blummin’ height) should be easier with the larger wheel because the crank is higher to begin with.

Posted on the newsgroup two days ago but still not on the forum.

I should add that any response that I should see, is best sent via email.

yeah but you have to add 3" for the rim and 1 or 2 for the tyre from a dead hop + the 24" is heavier and thats gonna be very hard! I am not going to loose my crank grabs so i will be out every night until i can do them!

you’ll be fine. at first itll feel really heavy and bulky but you will get used to it. i used to ride trials on a 24. my highest hop was just under 25". when i got my 20", after a couple days i could get 25" pretty easily, but no higher. it wasnt until i tweaked my technique could i get it up to about 28". if i was still on my 24" i would be at 28" too. if you switch between a 24 and 20 often you wont want to do trials on the big one, i wont ever do trials on my 24 again, but if you stay on the 24 you wil get used to it and do trials just fine.

GRRRR my muni seat post is a cm to big so it’s un rideable i have got 170mm on it so it should be really strange at first
