It’s time to start planning for the 3rd annual Douthat muni gathering located at Douthat State Park in the Virginia mountains near the town of Clifton Forge.
I checked the cabin availability at Douthat for the weekends in the mid April through May time frame. The best availability for cabins is the April 25/26/27 weekend. It is the only weekend during that time period with 2 bedroom cabins available. The other weekends have only a very limited selection of 1 bedroom cabins. Earlier than mid April will be a little cold for those people that will want to camp.
I know not everyone wants to stay in a cabin but enough people will want to that I think we should plan around the best availability and schedule the gathering for Friday April 25 through Sunday April 27, 2014.
I’m almost certainly in. I might be traveling to Arizona some time in April, but I think it will be a week or so earlier than the 25-27th, so I should still be able to come.
The Douthat munifest was definitely one of the highlights of my 2013, so I’m excited to return this year!
Right on! I was planning on contacting Ben to see if he was going to be able to organize/attend. Claude thanks for taking the lead. That weekend looks good to me. Chuck, glad to hear you’ll be attending. Heard about your knee, hope it’s healed well. Jess and I will be camping as well down by the lake. Looking forward to it!
I had only been riding for 3 months at the last Douthat gathering and still enjoyed the trails. Plus it was great to meet other muni riders, as I had never been around anyone else that unicycled. looking forward to riding those trails now that I will have a year of riding under my belt, should be even more fun.
The 6 bedroom lodge is only available April 18 and 19. The only way it would be cost effective is if all 6 rooms were filled. It is about 3 times the cost of a 2 bedroom cabin. I thought about trying to get it but it would require some immediate commitments.
If you are thinking about coming and want to stay in a cabin, there is still a good selection of one room efficiency and one bedroom cabins. If you want a two bedroom cabin, you better act fast because there is only one left.
Last time the campers stayed in the A loop Lake sites. There are still plenty of sites left there.
I don’t think I’ll be able to make the ride this year because I’ll already be living in Wenatchee Washington. Make some turns for me and come visit me in Washington state next year.
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I’ve been waiting for this moment for months. I’m definitely in. (Barring tragedies, ebola, and/or homicidal aliens.)
I’ll be with the cool (literally) kids by the lake. Speaking of which…does anyone have extra tent space? I’ll bring cookies! (Or some other waist-increasing baked good.) And/or an adult beverage of your choice!
Ms Jenny, yes it was very ‘cool’ on both the literal and anthropomorphic level to be hanging out with the kids at the lake in 2013. I think JTC’s shoes froze solid overnight Cheese and olives were most memorable and the not to mention the ‘don’t let us see you drinking out of that container ; )’ beverages.
Oh- the riding was okay too. BIG GRIN still on face!!!
My tent is a de minimus two person abode but if the option is to leave you outside to the bears and bugs vs sharing- then you can shelter overnight in chateau pax.
Let’s finalize the dates and make some reservations.
