20 mph on Coker

I was wondering if anyone has gone over 20 mph on a Coker. That’s my fastest
speed with 25mm cranks so far.

I’ve gone over 22 mph on my Tom Miller big wheel (45") many years ago. But then
again I didn’t have your cool 25mm cranks. I didn’t even have 125s, which might
be what you meant. My big wheel has 6.5".

Re: 20 mph on Coker

On my Coker,I got a max speed reading of 25 once but I think this was due to the
near freezing temp. Another time I got 21 in the same 30 degree range. The
fastest speed that I trust is 17.

I clocked AJ doing 19ish a couple of weeks ago on fairly level ground. Didn’t
clock him down hill though. Brian Berlin

I did get a speedo reading of 24mph ONCE, but I didn’t believe it. Recon that
as i came off for a rest stop I must have spun the wheel as I unwieghted it
or something. Properly my top has been 15.6mph, on 150mm cranks. Roger has
been faster.

Re: 20 mph on Coker

My max is 18.3, but that’s with the standard 152mm cranks. Kevin Gilbertson’s
fastest is (I believe) 24.5mph, not sure what crank length.

Scary, scary!

PS My 18.3 was at night with a headlamp. I don’t really try for speed records
anymore after crashing at 18.1mph.

That’s the correct speed! It was on 152mm cranks. Check out my log of the ride
that I reached that maximum at:
http://www.gilby.com/unicycling/log/100mi.html#1999-May-23

On an earlier ride, I reached 24.0 MPH, that log is at:
http://www.gilby.com/unicycling/log/100mi.html#1999-May-09

I didn’t put shorter cranks on until the middle of the Unicycle Across
Minnesota. I switched to see if it would help my knee not hurt with every
revolution I pedaled. It helped a lot and allowed me to cruise the rest of the
ride as if my knee never hurt (but still not pain free). If I had not’ve changed
my cranks, I wouldn’t have made it the full way.

> Scary, scary!

 Since the ride, I have not had my computer set up on my Coker, so I have no
idea how fast I’ve been going. But I can imagine that I have gone pretty fast
(probably not faster than I have before) on a long bridge that went from one
side of the river to the other.

Re: 20 mph on Coker

I over-inflated the tyre and fitted an outboard motor to my unicycle. Now I can
cruise at 12 knots…
