Does anyone have any recommendation for an easy to find 20" fat, low-pressure tyre? I vaguely recall Spencer (I think) talking about the Twenty-G but that’s near impossible to find around here. What I’m looking for is something bouncy… I’m currently running the Kenda Kinetic 2.25" which feels a bit skinnier than I like.
I’ve seen some promising contenders like the Aaron Ross which comes in a 2.35" variety BUT reviews say that it’s skinnier than advertised.
The most interesting bit of info I’ve seen though is this . Some guy found a motorcycle tyre that fits on his 20" rim. Has anyone tried this before and how is the weight like?
I Got a Kenda Flame 20X3 (just under 2.5" wide on my freestyle rim). The sizing of the bead diameter is a bit big and I bet it would come off w/ a smallish side hop. Also the sidewalls are REALLY thin.
There are a buch of cruiser 20X3s out there, but I bet most have thin sidewalls. From what I remember about the 20-G is its sidewalls were of average thickness.
I’m not sure if I want to run 3" tyres… Cruiser tyres in general look heavy and they seem to be more novelty than functional(ie. the Schwinn Stingray).
Not on a unicycle, but I put a 20x 2.3 Fuquay Flyer on my son’s trail-a-bike to replace the knobby tire it came with. The tire is smooth and very round. If I was looking for a wide-ish tire for a freestyle uni I’d certainly try it. I haven’t measured it but it seemed big enough to be true to size. I can put a caliper on it tonight and report back.
I rode with one of those tires on some flatland unis. They feel pretty good but I wouldnt recommend low pressure. The sidewalls are weak and fold easily, overall a very cool feeling tire.
I got my tire over the weekend and took a ride. I think I like it thus far. The tyre states 2.3", not 2.35 as advertised so I don’t know what’s going on (I got it via chainreactioncycles).
However, I like the weight (very light!) and the height of the tyre. The sidewalls feel sturdier than the kenda kinetics one I was using previously which feels better on hops. I don’t know much about the grip yet since I haven’t done much on it. Overall I’d say it seems quite good for street riding.
I have a Flybikes Ruben 2.1". It’s sidewalls may be the stiffest of any 20" tire I’ve used. The tread looks identical to the Rampera. The widest I found now was 2.25"
